Date: 12/7/2008 12:55:00 AM From Authorid: 15677 sorry the kids are so sick hunny, my lilest has been coughing for a while now. its hard to get her to take her medicine too. we ussually end up bribing her with something. (like a pepsi chaser) i hope they get abck to u on monday and the kids get better! |
Date: 12/7/2008 6:36:00 AM From Authorid: 15394 Wow you have very pretty kids! So sorry they are sick, that bites!! Avoid milk, milk products, anything dairy... but your prolly knew that!! And that old song, a teaspoon of sugar makes the medicine go down... use a little trickery if you need, mix a little sugar with water and put it in the dropper if you have one. Give the dropper to the kiddo, and let her taste, then let her see you add sugar to medicine and see if she will take it same way? Just an idea... I dunno, but I would definitely have the pharm add flavor! Grape as Shai mentioned seems to be a favorite... and as appy said, BRIBERY works sometimes LOL ... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! |

Hmmm I may try a 'pepsi' chaser (though here it'd be coke!) I guess the sugar/water couldn't hurt to try either. We couldn't even get her to take any of it at all yesterday. I even had my mom talk to her a bit to try and convince her. It was a no go! Hubby needs to get quarters for laundry today so I'll have him run the meds back to the pharmacy while he's at it. I think Grape is what we were planning on going with anyway, so it's good to know that may help! Anyone know if ear infections tend to clear on their own? Or are they the type that *NEEDS* the antibiotics?? I know with my really bad double one they were concerned about permanent hearing loss?? So I'd guess it's one of those things that really does need the treatment. Argh so frustrating trying to reason with a near 4 year old! |
Date: 12/7/2008 9:15:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16845 Oh yeah, Junga they've been living off pedialyte and crackers! Milk they both toss really quickly! LOL |
Date: 12/7/2008 9:28:00 AM From Authorid: 15394 nope the ear infection won't clear on its own, and can be very painful if fluid builds up behind the drum and causes so much pressure it can literally pop it.... good luck getting the meds down... by the way, milk interferes with the effectiveness of lots of antibiotics (also by the way, antibiotics interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills - a good fyi for ladies!) |

Interesting. I knew about the birth control. not about milk/antibiotics though. Hrm.. Ok, I didn't figure it'd clear on it's own. I hoped though LOL Guess I'll keep trying and if I'm still not having success tomorrow call her doctor back. They could probably do it in shot form. I'd really hate for it to come to that....but if she won't take the meds, I am not seeing much other options...... |
Date: 12/7/2008 8:30:00 PM From Authorid: 820 Geeze, that stinks Becky. I hope your girls feel better soon! It's no fun when kids are sick. Good luck to your husband. Hope everything works out. |
Date: 12/9/2008 9:08:00 PM From Authorid: 16671 Its not hard to do becky, I know this is going to sound bad, but getting the meds in is what is important. You get your little girl, with both of you on the floor or bed, lay her down between your legs and wrap your legs around her arms, sort of pinning her down, that leaves your hands free without her hands free and this is when you close her nose with one hand so she has to open her mouth to breathe and then you hurry and squeeze the syring of meds down her throat when she opens her mouth. Even if she spits some of it back out at you, you are still getting some down her throat. NOW for an easier way. hehehhehe and less tramatic for the child. What is something she usually is not allowed to have, or likes a whole lot? With my grandaughter that has to take a hyper med twice a day, she likes chocolate. So her mom breaks the capsul open puts it on a t spoon, pours chocolate surup all over it, mixes it around and she takes it no problem. And YES that stuff laura takes tastes nasty. Another way, most kids LOVE soda pop and want to drink yours all down. So you leave a very little bit of soda pop in a can, put the amount of med in there, pretend YOUR drinking it and tell her No when she asks for some. And ya we always tend to give in, on little things, so then when you hand it to her, most kids dont think about it, they just start to guzzle and before she can think about what she is tasting its already down her. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO BE sneaker then the kids. Hope them lovely babies are feeling better and WHY wasn't the crew notified first? And if they were, you missed me. LOL Love Deb and Merry Christmas and praying the hubby will get that job. |
