Well, Nathan update. It's not good.

The UW childrens hospital trip was a bust and a half. Dr. Noonan, the specailist was a wrung out washed up donkey over the naked moon with chicken feathers stuck up his specialistic bum. Yeah, he's sure special all right.

Nathan will not ever see him again vice versa and I will call personally to tell them that not only was the solid cast he did CUT OFF afterward here in town, but his casting job severely cut off blood supply to Nathans hand and might have caused permanent damage to his fingers. We'll find out tomorrow when we take him back in for a check.

They clam shelled his cast and when that didn't work, they literally cut off the whole top of his cast, so his cast is literally not on, but it is now ace bandaged together.

So we had the UW trip, an ER trip another ER trip and so many calls over and over to both hospitals. We were almost taken by ambulance from here to Madison UW ER again.

SO yeah I'm kinda smearing Dr. Noonan here, but you know what? He's supposed to be some great wonder of the world and all he was well, isn't G rated, hence the title I gave him above.

Where do we go from here? Easy. Shriners. Yes, the guys in parades with funny hats. SHRINERS!!!!!!

So now we will travel the over 100 miles to see people who TRULY care and listen and love and help.

We thought that's what we were getting, but no, we were wrong. A pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon tha tmight have caused my baby permanent damage. WAY TO GO DR. NOONAN!!!! expect a complaint filed against you in the morning :)

ALSO WHY NATHANS ARM WAS BROKEN...........

It was discovered by the last ER doc who cut Nathans cast off that he had severe shoulder displacia when he was born. It was either break his arm getting him out NOW or he would have died. Literally. SO thank you to my OB for breaking his arm rather than letting him die, but really, you didn't know you broke his arm?

To get a few things off my mind I e mailed someone. THis is what I wrote to them.....

Just an update. We went to UW Madison to have Nathan's arm looked at by Dr. Noonan who casted it up too straight, cut off circulation to his fingers and hand for 9 hours until we went to the ER here in Janesville last night twice to have his cast first clam shelled, then the top cut wide open. So in all 3 visits and worse results. The ER here did more for little Nathan who today is 19 days old than Dr. Noonan. Dr. Noonan did not listen to us at all, and I took 4 of the 6 cases in the world to see him. Not only was he not interested in them, but he was not interested with proper care of Nathan's fused arms. He casted the bone as straight as he could, which is not the way his arms are. They are bent at a 90 degree angle. It's unreal. I never thought in my life it would be this hard to get care for a baby, let alone a baby that is so rare. Seems Daddy and I just can't trust anyone! SO now this morning my focus is getting my 5 yr old off to school then in one hour calling Shriners Hospital in Chicago. Shriners is gonna be our best bet ever. They operated on 2 of the 6 of my family with this birth defect. Least to say they know what do do, as if anyone but them could really know what to do......I don't even know why I'm writing you this to be exact. Maybe a little bit of peace of mind knowing someone out there read this and knows what hell it is for me right now other than family. I exhausted all of us. Up for over 24 hours and now hopefully a trip to Chicago 100 miles away today. And hopefully all before my son gets off of school at 3 pm. People tell me to take a few minutes for myself a day. I can't. I have a 19 day old trauma patient sitting in his bouncy seat in the living room in God knows what kind of pain waiting to be fixed. Is this how we treat our babies? Is this how we treat our babies who need the best care we as parents can give them? If so God help me, I want none of it. I'll learn to do all this myself.

Date: 11/6/2008 9:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    I don't understand how they could not know that it was broken...it sounds like it was obvious something was wrong, so why didn't they xray or anything? Not asking you, more of a general "what the heck" kinda questioning lol
Date: 11/6/2008 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 11176    no not more problems for nathan shriners are awesome though! I know sooo many of them
Date: 11/6/2008 9:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 11199    the shriner hospitals are completely free of cost to you
Date: 11/6/2008 10:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    How could they not know it was broken??? *shakes head* that poor little guy, and here we were thinking that this doctor would be just great to fix it all...sorry this is happening to you hun....
Date: 11/6/2008 10:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 7830    ay yi yi...when it rains it pours! You all are in my prayers.
Date: 11/6/2008 11:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 3835    I was not impressed that we were treated like a number in Madison.. "Let's get them in and out in under 10 minutes, yet make them wait for hours and hours". Our questions were bothering the doctor, as he acted as if he had more important things to do.

They kept saying, they would have to look up this syndrome. Never minding that they were told with only 6 cases in the world, there was no information to look up. His research was in the room in human form, where he stood, and he was not interested in any of that. Nathan has special needs..

The assistant to Dr. Noonun was only in there and thumbing through his file as if he wanted to be nosey and just see. His mannerisms were non-professional from the get go.. and I hope he washes his hands. I hope Shriner's Hospital will be different than what we have had to deal with so far.

Is it too much to ask for these days from medical professionals, that a loved one recieve proper treatment so they can be in comfort? And is it too much to at least get answers to posing questions that need answers for the healthy healing a child needs, without the feeling of being blown off?

Date: 11/6/2008 11:36:00 PM  ( Admin )   Contact a lawyer now and start keeping track of everything and getting copies of the records. Make notes of everything they are permissable in court. Just talking about what happened won't convince a jury.
Date: 11/6/2008 11:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 37150    That's terrible! I am so sorry! I don't know why hospitals/doctors are like this. *hugs* I will be praying for you!
Date: 11/7/2008 1:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 64279    That's insane, how could they not know that they broke his arm? I know stuff like that happens, but seriously? My doc dislocated my hip when I was born and didn't know it....But you definitely should file a complaint against that poor excuse of a specialist. And the Shriners are completely wonderful people. They'll most definitely take care of you guys to the fullest extent! Sorry you had to go through all this nonsense deary.
Date: 11/7/2008 3:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    Best wishes to you with all of this.

Date: 11/7/2008 5:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 51106    I hope you can get better answers at Shriners then what that sorry excuse of a doctor gave you.
Date: 11/7/2008 8:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    ditto what radman said.
you can't go wrong with the shriners. i have 2 cousins that went there and they fixed them right up. one of them wouldn't have lived past her 10th. birthday if she hadn't gone to the shriners hospital. her doctors were doing NOTHING here.

Date: 11/7/2008 10:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 62100    Good Lord Kenz- I am *so* sorry for all that you have been enduring so far..please trust that *some* of us medical professionals care- I'm so limited as an LPN though- I'm actually seriously thinking about moving up to social work..
Date: 11/7/2008 11:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 21903    Hon, I am so sorry to hear you (and Nathan) are having such a tough time! I can't believe the quacks who are allowed to practice medicine in this country sometimes (I knwo the majority of them are good, but when you get a bad one, you REALLY get a bad one). I hope poor Nathan is coping well enough with his pain...not that 19 day old babies really know how to handle that kind of thing! My thoughts are with you and your little one and I hope all starts looking up soon!! *HUGS*

Date: 11/7/2008 12:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 63241    My heart aches for this precious baby, suffering like he is. I hope & pray that the Shriners give him the right care and help. I'm totally in agreement with George about this too.
Date: 11/7/2008 1:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 64498    My thoughts and prayers are with you and I am sorry you had to go through this hopefully the Shriners Hospital will get things straight. Can you sue this bum? If you can and have the means to do so I would look into it!
Date: 11/7/2008 9:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Shriners is a great place to take kids. I know that I was never suppose to walk and my mom took me to shriners, between Shriners and a praying grandma who anointed my neck with oil every chance she got, I'm walking. I'm so sorry that little guy has had to go through so much trouble. I pray that he gets relief and gets it soon. Love deb
