My fiancee's grandfather passed away about an hour ago. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday for a Diabetes-related blood-pressure drop. While there, he had a heart attack that put him into a coma. Although they were able to get his heart to continue beating on it's own, they were not able to get him to start breathing again on his own. He was hooked up to a breathing support machine, but the time between when he stopped breathing and when they hooked him up caused severe irreversible brain damage which within itself caused multiple seizures. After 48 hours with no change to his condition, the decision was made to take him off of the breathing support and let him pass.
