Date: 10/28/2008 2:19:00 PM From Authorid: 16845 They'd only pay you 200? for 2 months?? Nope. too much responsibility for too little pay IMO. Unless you are looking to experience 'living on your own' for a while. |
Date: 10/28/2008 2:21:00 PM From Authorid: 46091 My opinion sucks lol. I would get your mother's opinion... she knows you and if the housesitting is a good idea. |
Date: 10/28/2008 3:03:00 PM From Authorid: 44960 I been housesitting our house for 23 years, surely you don't want my opinion on this matter!! *Spirit* |
Date: 10/28/2008 3:23:00 PM From Authorid: 18870 Im with Becky Dew, I house sitted once before I had a family of my own and it was only for 1 week. She hd 2 dogs and she paid me $150.00 So I could buy food for myself and everything. $200.00 for 2 months isn't alot considering you would use most if it for food probably. |
Date: 10/28/2008 3:44:00 PM From Authorid: 64197 $200 JUST to feed a cat for 2 months and make sure no one vandalizes their house while they are gone...I would do it. I am assuming they expect you to buy your own groceries, which if it were me I would do anyway and they keep paying the utility bills, 2 months own your own...I would do it, I don't see a problem with it. |
Date: 10/28/2008 3:57:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43015 I'm not sure if food would be provided..I assume I'm free to what they have but if i want something else then I'd have to buy it for my own..i guess i should have asked that LoL |
Date: 10/28/2008 4:02:00 PM From Authorid: 23075 200$ for two months. I don't think so. Too much responsibility and not enough pay. |
Date: 10/28/2008 4:11:00 PM From Authorid: 28848 I've had fun doing this, but I've never stayed for that length of time before. How well do you know the couple? |
Date: 10/28/2008 5:06:00 PM From Authorid: 42945 Ted and I did it once and house sat for 8 weeks, we were working close by to the home, we only had to feed ourselves and walk the two dogs. We lived in the country at the time and was working casually in the city so we treated like a working holiday with a luxurious home to stay in, swimming pool, lovely entertainment area. The woman's mother came daily to feed the dogs so it all worked out well for us. We didn't take any money offered to us as we looked on it as a holiday....wonderful... |
Date: 10/28/2008 5:20:00 PM From Authorid: 15677 I think it depends on a few things, how well do you know these people? Is the neighborhood safe? The food issue? Do you think you would be fine staying on your own away from "home" for such a legnth of time. Can you have company? IMO all these things would determine weither or not you would take 200 to do this for so long. |
Date: 10/28/2008 6:41:00 PM From Authorid: 47218 Are these people well off? Because 200 dollars for 2 months of housesitting seems a bit low to me. I pay that much to put my cat in the kennel for a couple weeks. I would offer more for the job. Then again, maybe it's worth it to you to get a rent-free place to yourself for a couple months and get a couple a hundred dollars for doing nothing more than emptying the litterbox and feeding the cat. It's your call. |
Date: 10/28/2008 7:11:00 PM From Authorid: 64365 I think it's a good deal. Just don't go in the basement or attic. |
Date: 10/28/2008 7:47:00 PM From Authorid: 12103 $200 for 2 months does seem low to me as well. Wow. You are responsible for anything and everything that happends there...I'd be scared of taking on the kinda responsibility ... |
Date: 10/28/2008 7:52:00 PM From Authorid: 47218 Don't go in the basement or the attic? What do you think might be in there, Nani? An ax-murdering gimp? The dead body of the last house-sitter? This sounds like a premise for a horror movie. |
Date: 10/28/2008 9:38:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43015 I don't think there like..super rich people..I think they're living well, but not to the point where they can burn money, you know? |

Because, as a house sitter you are responsible if, anything happens most house sitters on average probably pull in about $200.00 a week sometimes, less sometimes more. So, you need to find out what you will be responsible for, are they providing you with the food that is in the home so far or will you be expected to buy your own food. If, that's the case can you stretch 200.00 into two months? I'm sure you could as it would just be you eating. I don't know too many house sitters that are permitted to have guests at the house however; I suppose you could ask that question as well. |
Date: 10/29/2008 7:04:00 AM From Authorid: 48809 I have always wondered when people "house sit" like this if they are required to do the house work ? I assume not in this case for such a small amount of money... but , it seems it would sure get dusty / dirty in 2 months time...especially if there is a cat in the house and in the bed! lol. |
