Actor claims self defense in the killing of girlfriend's cat...~*~Danielle~*~

Hey everyone, this is an unusual story for you.

New York- An actor admits to killing his girlfriend's cat, but denies the attack was unwarranted and claims self defense.

This unusual cruelty has commenced in New York Courts. ASPCA police arrested Joseph Petcka, 36, last April after a veterinarian, who inspected the seven-and-a-half-pound cat and pronounced it dead, notified the authorities. Petcka, who has appeared in "Sex and the City" and was once a minor-league baseball player for the Mets, faces up to two years in prison if convicted. The cat's owner testified in court Wednesday saying that when she found her cat's lifeless body in the house, she called up Petcka, her boyfriend at the time. She asked him what kind of sick person would kill a cat like that.

Petcka's lawyer claimed that his client "swatted it really hard," and that it was an unfortunate accident. And Petcka maintains the 8-year-old cat has always been hostile. "The cat had always hissed and growled at me as I was being nice to him," Petcka reportedly told the ASPCA police when arrested. "I don't know why he attacked me, as I always wanted to keep my distance with him." Trouble started one late night when Altobelli and Petcka, intoxicated at the time, got into a fight and he accused her of loving the cat more than him, The New York Post reported. Altobelli left her apartment around 3 a.m. and later returned to find Norman's lifeless body in her bedroom.

The cat was found to have suffered several broken ribs, internal bleeding, crushed teeth and a torn tongue, says Joseph Pentangelo, ASPCA'S assistant director of law enforcement. Petcka likely used his hands and feet, and not any weapons, to kill Norman. "The results of the necropsy indicated that there was an instance of severe trauma and violence," Pentangelo said in an interview with Pet Pulse.

So far, the jury in this case has been hopelessly deadlocked.

I personally think this guy took out his anger for his girlfriend on the cat, and is trying to use the whole self defense thing as an excuse....

This article was taken from the New York Post. I did not want to post the direct link to it, as there have been many non G rated comments left on it by people, as I can see, LOL.

Date: 9/24/2008 6:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16376    Yeah, really. I can understand some instances in claiming self defense when it comes to killing animals. Like if a rabid dog attacks you, I could understand fighting back. But I HIGHLY doubt that this cat was threatening him enough for him to have to kill him....
Date: 9/24/2008 6:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16376    I think I forgot to mention in this post that the cat is even declawed. What kind of coward thinks there life is being threatened by a declawed cat?
Date: 9/24/2008 6:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 51876    Cats can be brutal, Once me and one of my friends went back to his house. Inside we heard the feline growlmoan and Cindy called out from the kitchen "to get in there and get rid of this crazy cat!" It had her penned in the corner for nearly a hour. One of the weirdiest things I have ever seen..so I can believe it.Cool Post.TTYL

Date: 9/24/2008 6:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 51876    No Way, He is lieing...not the other way around
Date: 9/24/2008 6:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16376    I know cats can be vicious. Although I don't think even a cat that wasn't declawed would be life threatening to anyone. Might scratch you up a bit, but it probably wouldn't kill you.
Date: 9/24/2008 6:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    But it would hurt, scare the crap out of you and might make you think he could actually kill you. My cat launched himself at one of my kid's head one day, dug in his claws and wouldn't let go. The sounds that came out of my child made me want to hurt the cat, but I didn't. I just put the fear of God into him ;o) My cat was probably provoked, as little boys are prone to do. But this guy killed it in cold blood. I hope he gets what's coming to him.
Date: 9/24/2008 9:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 25481    OMG. NO cat can overpower a human being. Seriously dude. I am so upset about this. I hate animal abuse. It makes me IRATE. This cat was obviously BEATEN to death not "swatted".
Date: 9/24/2008 9:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 29532    Ok, here's the deal....It does happen. It does..We had a black cat years n years ago who would for no reason, jump and grab your face with is paws and try to bite your face. Another instance, my hubby grabbed a kitten who was released into our woods to take it to the shelter. It literally ran up his face and head. Cut his nose WIDE open and he had to get stiches to close it and antibody shots everywhere in his face the cat scratched, not knowing if it was rabid. SO death by self defense of a cat, I CAN believe it.
Date: 9/24/2008 10:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    If him and his g/f argued that she loved the cat more than him, you can bet he did take it out on the cat. Big brave man that he is I don't think. With injuries the cat had, says it all. I hope he feels the full force of the law...
Date: 9/25/2008 11:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 12709    NOT...G-RATED....MUST...NOT...COMMENT.....
Date: 9/25/2008 11:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 12709    I don't even like cats and this makes me mad..
Date: 9/25/2008 7:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 63644    SELF DEFENSE?! Why would anyone need self defense against a cat?!
What's the most a cat can do?! Ugh, people like him need serious help.

Date: 9/27/2008 6:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 56297    This just makes me so sad. Everytime I hear about horrific abuse like this it makes me think "what if it was my pet?". First of all the cat was declawed, so him saying it was self defense makes NO sense. Even if the cat hadnt been declawed and the man HAD to defend himself, I'm sure after one quick swat the cat would have gotten scared and retreated somewheres. No, this man obviously beat the cat untill it died...all because he was jealous.
