What would you do/How would you feel?

I work as a waitress at a steakhouse in my town I go to school at. Last week I was on 2 shifts. I took off one of them because it was my friends birthday Thursday, then I worked Friday. Someone asked me to work for them Saturday and I said I would but then our sorority had move in day Saturday morning and I hadn't had much sleep so I called in the alternate to work. It wasn't technically my shift anyway. Well this week the schedule comes out and I only have 1 shift and it's on our slowest night of all. Immediately when I found this out I knew I had to get another job I just couldn't afford to work like that. So Tuesday I went to a hotel and applied for a desk assistant job. They called me in for an interview at 2:30 and when I left I was hired. Well, today my sorority sister/supposed best friend texts me and tells me that I am "taken off" the schedule. Which means they are no longer giving me any shifts. I asked why and they said I called in too much. I thought that was messed up because we have girls who just will downright NOT show up for work and they aren't taken off. Now my friend knows I have to work to pay bills and if it was the other way around I would have fought tooth and nail for her. I am very upset right now. I had got a second job becausw I needed it and now I am back to having only 1 job. I don't know what to do.

I feel like giving up right now. I am trying to make all this happen and it seems like it's just not working. Yesterday I had to go to Montgomery to meet the Governor and I had told my sorority this like 2 weeks ago and today I get a text message saying, "Who is going to Get On Board day?" like I was in charge of it or something. I was like "I dont know Im on my way to Montgomery" and they proceeded to ask,"Why?" I am just really frustrated and down right now. I took in a room mate in my 1 bedroom apartment to help me cut costs and I'm trying EVERYTHING to make money and save money. I just don't know anymore...

I'm sorry if this sounds petty to ya'll. I just am really frustrated at this point. I feel like I have no friends and I can't depend on anyone to be there for me in my life. All I do is sleep because I have just been depressed lately and don't want to do anything. I feel like I'm falling a part.

Working hard and having good references employment wise..or being so active in your sorority that you lost your employment??
Date: 8/22/2008 8:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 62100    Not trying to sound harsh..but take it from me..I've been there..it's nice to be involved and hang with your friends..but ultimately, the job is more important..if I called in for every birthday or event that everyone wanted me at I'd never work...don't get me wrong..we *all* do it in moderation..but you can't let things like that come before your job...
Date: 8/22/2008 8:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    sounds to me like you let people walk over you. i used to have that same problem. i would give and give and then when i needed something everybody had other plans. it doesn't really sound petty. it sounds like you've had enough and don't know exactly how to put a stop to it. since i'm not there i can't really say what you should do but i can say what i did. i started out by saying NO. start asking yourself when somebody wants a favor if that same person would do the same for you. it's not how many friends you have it's how good a friend someone is. i would rather have one or two really good friends over 15 or 20 so so friends. about the sleeping all the time....i've never been there either but my best friend of 25+ years went through it a few years ago. she just had to make herself get up and do something. anything at all to keep herself from staying in bed. sometimes she just called me at work and told me to talk to her about something that would not bore her to sleep!! OMG! does this even make sense?
Date: 8/22/2008 9:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    How much longer do you have left in school? Maybe you can move to a dorm if thats cheaper. I hope it all works out.
Date: 8/22/2008 7:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    Yeah, what Xylanthis said. My own birthday was just yesterday- but did I call in? No. The job is more important. I worked the night before my birthday AND last night. It's a part of life that you just have to deal with. You won't always get your way and when you call in to work that deems you not very dependable.
Date: 8/22/2008 9:36:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    The dorms on our campus are acutally more expensive because they require you to buy an expensive meal ticket that I never have time to use because of classes and work. I started training tonight at my new job and I am starting out making $7 an hour. Although we only get paid every 2 weeks so I don't know what I am going to do about money until those 2 weeks because bills are due in like a week and half...Something will work out I suppose. I'm really trying not to stress over it right now. I am tired of stressing.
