Demon hounds, hugh black dogs, with glowing red eyes, haunt many areas around England. They are known as Barquists in Yorkshire, Shucks in Suffolk, or Strikers in Lancashire, and are most often sighted near ancient ruins or prehistoric pathways. In Wales, the "derwyn corph"(corpse bird) is the phantom bird that sits on windowsills and taps on the glass when someone is about to die. The most frightening of animal ghosts is the "werewolf", King John was said to have returned to life as a werewolf, and the areas of Cimbria and Northunbria seems a favorite grounds for werewolves.
