For most of my life I have had the great pleasure of being entertained by good books. In fact there has been very few times in my life when I have not had a book at hand or at home ready for my mind to devour it. It is through this behavior of mine that I have discovered that a vast majority of people have given up reading books altogether while I have come to enjoy ever larger tomes to get lost in. Which brings up a point that I want to make. I really really enjoy buying the hardcover format of a book that I like. As often as I can, in fact, even when the cheaper, softcover is available. Why? I really didn't know the answer to that question till a moment ago. Yes, hardcover last longer, is more durable, and I am less inclined to keep it locked away where potential friends may gaze upon them and perhaps even borrow one once in a while. No, the real reason that I have come to enjoy hardcover books so much is that when you have come to a satisfying halt to your reading for the day or hour, the resounding thump that is made when you snap the book closed adds a certain finality to everything that you have just read that you just can't get in a softcover book. It does seem to be true what they say, that the simplest things in life are usually the most enjoyable.

How it changed my life:

I love hardcover books.

Date: 6/17/2008 12:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    I don't care if it is hardcover or not really All my books look like they have never been read and I hate it when someone borrows one and turns down the page or if, it's paperback and they fold it GRR.
Date: 6/17/2008 1:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    All of my books look new and they are years old...and I do not loan any out now because they were returned in an awful condition....
Date: 6/17/2008 1:23:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 1055    Yeah, I used to feel the same way about my books. Then I realized that just letting them sit there, rarely looked at, much less read, wasn't doing anyone any good. Plus by allowing someone to borrow a book, they get the chance to enjoy it as much as I did and maybe it'll get them interested in reading again.
Date: 6/17/2008 1:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 64593    Wow, I couldn't agree more with this post. I feel the same way as you. I love reading! I especially love reading hardcover books. If I can buy a hard copy, I will. I'm really glad you posted this. ---TD---
Date: 6/17/2008 1:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 64593    Of course, the book I still as good in paperback as it is hardcover, but I do prefer buying hardback. ---TD---
Date: 6/17/2008 2:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 30747    I love them too. With me I think that it's a respect thing for reading. The hard covers get put on a shelf like some knick knack to be admired and all I have to do is glance at them to bring the story to mind again. I would live in a library if I could.
Date: 6/17/2008 4:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 48809    I love to read too and I have maybe 200 books more or less. I used to lend my books out too...but no more. My neighbor borrowed books from me and later on lent one to someone else....so that ended that because I never got it back.
Date: 6/17/2008 6:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 20296    I love books. I have complete series in hardcover only of harry potter and the earth children series so far. I am awaiting the old (and proabably dead by now) jean auel to write her last two books. she takes forever and I mean forever to write them...which is fine because they are that good (clan and the cave bear is the first book in the series)..but I fear she is dead now and havent heard anything...I think they are trying to find a ghost writer like they did for VC andrews and that scares me. noone could replace andrews...and noone can replace auel.
Date: 6/18/2008 3:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 48809    I think Jean Auel is still living today . Google( Is Jean Auel still living today?) and you can read about her.
Date: 6/30/2008 2:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 64637    I really don't read too much anymore. I like to read USM stories and the newspaper, that's about it. True, the simplest things in life are far better! Thanks~~MidnightSun
