my friend used the claw caps, you can try it, it worked for a bit and then fell off, i think it depends on the cat, can you tape something on the kitchen wall so the cat wont claw it?...it doesnt have to be permenent, thats what i did for the door jam to the bathroom i just taped cardboard, it looks kinda ugly, but hey, it works. |

You can buy some stuff that you spray on the walls to stop them from clawing at what you don't want them to. A scratching post is a good idea too. |

I bought him a scratching post but he is scared of it! LOL. Like he walks past it and pops it with his paw. He doesn't like it. |

Jess , I would suggest going to Petco or a pet store and ask them if they have some idea. I would think Boundry might work. The only thing about Boundry is if you spray it on furniture you don't want him to scratch he won't get on the furniture either which I'm sure you don't mind him being on the furniture. Speaking of declaw , I don't think it's rude , it is something very serious to think about when it comes to his safety when he runs out the door. There probably more cons than pros to declawing a cat. You mentioned claw caps , well there again that would not work either. If it got out side it could not defend himself that way either. Sorry I couldn't help much. I just wanted to give you my thoughts. |

Jess...try putting catnip on the post...if your cat is anything like mine...he'll love his post in no time. Also, soft paws do work, but they have to be replaced since they shed off as the nails get longer. I have 5 cats...all clawed. I trim their nails on a fairly regular basis which helps tremendously! ***hugs*** |

My mom used a super soaker. It also helped keep all four of her cats from fighting. All she had to do was make the sound of that gun cocking and they would scatter. No more clawed furniture either. |

here are a few things u cant try,put cat nip all over the scratchin post. out pepper or something else fowl smellin on where he is scratchin and use a water bottle to squirt him when he does scratch where u dont want him too, also i have a mle thatis declawed an outside... no big deal he still rules the roost, can fight like mad when he has too and never looses dont worry so much about him being out if u declaw him they can use the back ones almost as good as the fronts. But to stop him from messing up house the only way is to declaw. |

Catnip worked on the scratching pads we bought at Wal-Mart! Also, the squirt gun also works...they hate that! PLEASE don't declaw. |
