I need a private loan *Jess UPDATE

So...I need an apartment...and with my current budget I can't really afford to live somewhere nice and by myself. So I think I need a private loan. but I know that I definitely don't have the credit to get one and I don't even know where to get one. I tried to get one through Astrive and I was denied.

Can anyone help me out or advise me on what's going to be best for me to do? Gas is way too much for me to commute to where my college is.

Thanks.

U-P-D-A-T-E

I called Chase Education and got approved for a loan! I will be apartment hunting in NO TIME!

yay!

Thanks everyone for your help.

Date: 5/5/2008 1:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 51106    I don't really have anything to advise you on but couldn't you maybe get a roomate by putting an ad in the local newspaper? Or could you stay at your campus right on college?
Date: 5/5/2008 1:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    get into a dorm, or find one or two roommates to split the cost.

Date: 5/5/2008 1:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    I recently moved out of a trailer where I was living with 3 other girls. I cannot stand to have room mates. I might can handle one. But I need someone who is clean, can tolerate my cat and is considerate because my previous room mates were very loud and dirty and were very inconsiderate if I was trying to study or had people over or something.

Date: 5/5/2008 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 62849    You can't really be picky if you don't have the money or credit to get your own apartment. Your best options might be to 1) ask someone (parents or friends) to take care of your cat while you're in dorms or 2) rent with a bunch of people. Other than that, what about a school loan?
Date: 5/5/2008 2:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    I think I've received all I can get as far as school loans go. I have a pell grant, a subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loan and a perkins loan, as well as scholarships and another grant.
Date: 5/5/2008 2:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    I think having too many room mates is part of the problem of why I failed this semester because the environment was very good for studying.
Date: 5/5/2008 3:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 12072    I'm with Beags on this one. Loans are fine and dandy now, but just wait til you start to pay them off. My fiance and I are working our butts off, don't spend extravagantly, etc, and yet one of us is working over 2 weeks a month just to pay off our student loans--and there are still some coming in that the grace period has just expired. So I'm def. with Beags--ask your parents for help, either financially or to take the cat, or get a few roommates and learn to use the library.
Date: 5/5/2008 3:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 15675    Trust me I hate roommates, I hate them ever so much. But if you look really REALLY hard you can usually find some that dont bother you too much. Why not try some older people? Or look for rooms in houses since usually the people owning them are slightly more mature then a college student in an apartment (not always...but sometimes)?

Trust me there is no way you'll get a bank loan for an apartment, specially if you are in school and do not posess a job...or even if you do they'll probably take one look and say no you dont make enough or have enough credit/collateral for us to take if you dont pay us back.

Your gonna hate to hear it but with the pet do one of two things: rent in a house/apartment where they dont mind animals and it doesnt cost you extra (rare but possible) or give it to family till you can afford elsewise. Rent with animals is INSANE...usually $50 or so a month extra plus a huge pet deposit. Guess you could lie but then that depends what type roomies you'd have and if they'd care or be big mouthed.

Part of being an adult is doing things we dont like...and if you read some of my back posts you'll know I've had cerifiably insane roommates. But I've lived...you will too. OH and a PS on this: one of my roomies did use his credit card (not too dif then a loan) to pay his rent for about a year and he had just graduated college. By the time I met him he had an okay enough job but the payments were killing him on his OLD charges...so there he was now paying for his rent responsibly and he still was being pinched be an old mistake. Just keep that in mind.

Date: 5/5/2008 9:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    congrats on getting the loan.
Date: 5/5/2008 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    As a sidenote, echoing Kaja's sentiment-- it is a bad idea to use credit cards to finance anything. Don't charge more than you can pay off at the end of a month. Revolving interest rates will kill you, as many of my friends can attest.
Date: 5/5/2008 11:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    Oh I don't have ANY credit cards. That would be a bad idea for me. (I'm not a shop a holic or anything.) There is just no need in me having one.
Date: 5/6/2008 5:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 12072    a loan can be as bad as a credit card--you're still paying interest (depending on your credit how that interest looks), and unlike a credit card where your minimum payment may be $10, your payment probably will be higher. Just be sure you can make the monthly payments and try to get it paid off soon as possible--it's hell when those student loans finally come through--I pay more a month in loans than I do my rent. Just know what you're getting yourself into and read the terms carefully so there's no surprises like hiked up interest rates for one late payment.
Date: 5/6/2008 6:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    ^^ or even late payments to other creditors and/or utilities. (that's usually hidden in the fine print, too.)
Date: 5/6/2008 1:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    Oh well I am planning on paying off some of my loans when I get my sign on bonus when I start working. All of my loans are deferred until 6 mo. after graduation.
Date: 5/6/2008 3:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 12072    that 6 months goes fast, believe me. I'm not trying to be harsh, but I now work in the credit industry and you'd be shocked how easy it is to skip the fine print and pay for it later, and I just want you (for you and your own credit's sake) to be fully aware of what you may be gaining now vs sacrificing later. In other words, is it worth it in the long run. Having your parents take your cat for a while or having a roommate or two may be better in the long run vs the accruing finance charges, bills, and heaven forbid fees and penalties later on.
Date: 5/6/2008 8:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 3321    I think getting a loan just to get an apartment is a bad idea. Anything that adds to your debt can never be good in the long run! And I have to agree with those who stated it above me-those six months go fast and before you know it you're trying to figure out how to pay for everything.
Date: 5/6/2008 9:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25481    Well, my happiness where I live is very important to me because if I am unhappy I can't exactly study or concentrate. Either way I will either be spending alot of money on gas driving to school or alot of money living close to school. We've decided it's best if I am closer to campus.
