Kind of heartbroken...~*~Danielle~*~

Hi everyone. I am sorry if it seems like everytime I post now I am upset about something, lol.

But in all seriousness, I am really sad right now. It all started last Saturday (the day before my birthday). I came home from school in Nebraska to see my parents on Friday night. On Saturday morning my mom was going to take me out shopping. But on our way out, a woman several houses down from us stopped us. She said she had found a dog running around outside with no identification. My mom and I said we would take the dog to the vet to see if it had a microchip.

Well, like every other dog we have ever found, it did not have a microchip. We decided to take care of the dog until we found it's owner. In an attempt to find the owner, we put up signs on our street and we left a message with a few rescues in the area.

Five days had gone by and nobody had called us. During this time, I really fell in love with the dog. It was a little boston terrier mix. For a little dog, it was such a sweetheart. She slept with me every night and would cry whenever I left the room. My parents became attached to her too. Since the days were going by without finding an owner, we decided we were going to keep the dog. I went out yesterday and bought a bed and many other supplies for her.

Earlier this afternoon, however, the owner called us to claim the dog. Believe it or not, it was someone who only lived four houses down from us. We had signs up for five days and they had only somehow seen the signs today. The guy said that he had taken the dog from Okalahoma because someone was abusing it there. My mom and I suggested to him that he get a tag, and he said he would depending on how much they cost.

It was good and all that this guy took the dog out of a bad situation, but I can not understand why it took him so long to contact us. If it were my dog, I would have knocked on every door in the neighborhood. I certainly would have noticed the many signs we put up in the area too. It was almost as if he had just started looking for her today.

I am really heartbroken. I fell in love with the dog and named her and everything. It feels so empty without her here now. :(

I would so do the microchip thing if I had a pup so I could always find it if it goes missing! Boston Terriers are SUPER cute too! Puppy love is a hard thing to get past! *HUGS*
Date: 3/20/2008 8:47:00 PM  ( Admin )   Perhaps you can visit the dog from time to time. Perhaps with your schedule it would be hard to take care of a pet at this time. I know how you feel though, same thing happened to Ginger and I. We found a tiny white puffy cute dog gave it a name and fell in love with it. Snowball.. but the owners read the sign and we had to let her go .

Date: 3/21/2008 7:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 56359    I'm sorry you feel heartbroken. You and your mom did a wonderful thing for the dog. I can sympathize with how hard it must’ve been to turn the dog over, a similar situation happened to me a while back, however, it involved a cat.

Date: 3/21/2008 11:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 21764    awwwwwwwwwww this is so sad! I am so sorry sweetie! It is so hard to lose an animal you get attached to! I don't know what I would do in that situation.. maybe you could adopt your own pet from the shelter??
Date: 3/21/2008 8:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 16376    Yes, it definitely was this guys dog. He described her to a T over the phone. I am still so upset over this. I miss her sleeping in my bed so much . It honestly wasn't the best time for me to get a dog, but my parents were so attached to her that they were willing to take care of her while I am in college. I miss her a lot.
