At the time I was working at Papa John's and in 2 1/2 years of delivery driving for various companies, I have NEVER had a wreck. Pretty good odds, eh? I was coming back from delivery and some punk (not going to go any further), 16 year old (nothing against 16 year olds) kid talking on the phone, stops short in front of me and I rear-end him.
Radiator fluid leaked all over the parking lot where we were sitting, waiting for the cop(who, thankfully, didn't rule it out as my fault.) I had a busted radiator, and I shelled out over $300 for a new radiator, and not to mention the hours I put in fixing the body on the front.
About a week after that, after finally getting my car at least halfway working. I put the new radiator in, and fixed the grill, etc. but the plastic component of the bumper would not go back on because the bumper itself was so badly damaged, and the bolts broke in half, so I could not fit it back on.
One morning, my [new] GM from my work called me in to help in. (He is an ungrateful person). As I was driving out my windy, curvy, cliffy, hilly road towards town, I took extra precaution because of the weather (we just had a bad storm) so I was going NO MORE than 10 mph!!!
I clear the most difficult parts of the road with no trouble at all. I start to get to a straight stretch, on a sort of steep cliff, an embankment, roughly about 25-30 feet at about a 85 degree angle (or is it a 105...I'm dyslexic). I get to a point where there is a house they are building (but for some reason not finishing) so there is a driveway that comes off the road and goes along the embankment at around the same angle but about 20 ft instead of the aforementioned 25-30. As I'm creeping along this part, my tires catch a patch of ice and it all goes from there. My car is SLOWLY and I do mean Slowly creeping towards the edge and all I see if my whole life, my marriage, and my wife before my eyes. I was terrified. All kinds of things went through my head, do I jump out of the car? What do I do?!
I tried EVERYTHING to get the car to stop, it seemed like it was an hour before it went over, but the car finally slid off the edge and fell down the 20 ft or so onto the driveway below.
I was in a state of shock, and the car was still RUNNING! I turned the key back and pulled my legs out and stood on the broken glass of my driver side window and slowly pushed the door open and up. While trying to hold the door open, I climbed out. I walked up the hill and started down the road, bleeding, in shock, and hurting. I was cold, snowing and I just broke down and started bawling. I was torn up. As I started walking down the road, one of my neighbors picked me up and drove me home.
And that's what happened. I hope to never go through that again.
