Last night I was woken by my husband who put his hands on my waist and hip saying, “Keep still!”
Disturbed from my slumber I said, “Huh? I’m not moving.”
He replied, “Oh, it must have been the wind,” rolled over and went back to sleep.
I did the same only I looked at the clock before I closed my eyes and it read 12:47.
In the morning I said, “Do you remember waking me up last night?” I further explained what happened.
He said, “No, I don’t. You must have been dreaming. I remember saying hello to you when I came to bed. You replied and went straight back to sleep. I bet you don’t remember that?”
“No, I don’t,” I said, but you definitely woke me up.
“I don’t think so,” he replied. “You must have been dreaming.”
I’d concluded our mattress was vibrating again and he didn’t remember. Yes, our mattress vibrates. It’s not plugged into anything so I’m assuming it’s the springs but often a time I’ve woken up annoyed and accused by husband of raking. He has no nails you see and when he gets an itch, he’ll use his comb, which I call a rake. So, he often gets disturbed with a vicious, “Stop raking!” only to find some of the time he isn’t but I can still feel the mattress vibrating.
This morning I come down to breakfast to find my husband on his laptop.
“I apologise,” he said. “I still don’t remember anything but since you do, it must have been true. There was an earthquake last night that affected a large area of Britain. It’s on the BBC News.”
Sure enough, just prior to 01:00 there was an earthquake of 5.3 whose epicentre was Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. It’s reported to have affected as far north as Newcastle, which of course means that we had indeed experienced it, too.
