Advice given to me prior to boot camp by BCAR: It's mostly in the head. The body will adapt and grow stronger on it's own. But you need to control the brain and keep it strong. Avoid any oddities, remarks, mistakes etc. that will make you stand out for additional punishment. Learn your general orders early and memorize them, they will come up again and again in boot camp. I really hope your foot is at 100% because it's about to take a tremendous amount of abuse. If you think you need more time then you need to take it because an injury in boot camp will get you recycled. All that said, best of luck to you, you're what helps keep this country great. Semper Fi. and check back in 13 weeks when I can officially call you a Marine. I'll be proud to do so.
Sadly I didn't listen to this, my usual habit of quick wit landed me in the pit and on the quarter deck at least 3 times a day and I eventually became the pace setter for the quarter deck. not something to be proud of however, I did it. I'm one of the few and the proud.
I would like to thank everyone for the advice.
All in all it was challenging and the hardest thing I've ever had to do however it wasn't impossible, I could do everything they threw at me I just had to have the faith in my drill instructors to know they trained me to do it and faith in myself that I could do it.
It was a cool morning on Dec. 15th as we were given the order to ground our gear. My platoon marched in front of the Iwo Jima monument next to the parade deck. There with tears in my eyes the drill instructor who made my life heck for 13 put the greatest thing a man can ever EARN and with a firm shake said "you made it, welcome to the family and congratulations Marine. I doubted you at first but I see you will make your family and this country proud.
