Just finished...

I've just completed a letter to my youngest son's Head of Year after trying, unsuccessfully, to speak with her on the phone today.

I was unhappy that my son received a sanction - a demerit - at school yesterday which I feel was undeserved. He has received these sanctions in the past and they have been deserved but in this case, I feel I have to stand up for him. So, I did.

I've written that I do not want my son to have another sanction instead of or as a consequence of non-completion of this demerit and I have requested that it be revoked.

I guess we'll have to wait to see what happens.

Date: 12/13/2007 2:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    He took football boots into a PE lesson as the PE teacher reminded the pupils the week before. This week the PE teacher says he should have brought rugby boots but the school Prospectus only stipulates football boots are required for PE. The only mention of rugby in a PE kit are a shirt and a gum shield.
Date: 12/13/2007 2:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    Oops, submitted too soon: As per the Prospectus, my son was fully equipped for PE.
Date: 12/13/2007 2:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    If the uniform guide does not state specifics then he certainly should not be punished. It makes me mad how kids are punished just because the teacher feels like it. I also really dislike the way that everyone is expected to afford all the uniform items 'just like that'. Rugby boots are not going to be used all year round and therefore should not be in the uniform code.
Date: 12/13/2007 3:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    Thanks. I agree totally. I also learnt today, after calling a sports shop to acquire information before I called the school, that you can have one set of boots and can change the cleats to make them suitable for either football or rugby; you don't need separate boots. That should be stipulated in the Prospectus as it will certainly be cheaper than buying two pairs of boots.
Date: 12/13/2007 3:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    WHen you think of how many families find it hard to afford JUST the basic uniform, demands such as this are ridiculous! I just paid £46 ($90) for a replacement blazer for my youngest after he lost the one I bought him this year only 6 weeks into the school year! I only have one child in school, I shudder to think how people with 3 or 4 kids in school manage. School uniform should be kept basic...and cheap!
Date: 12/13/2007 3:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 52746    Funny you should mention 3 and 4 kids, there's a woman round the corner who, at the last count, had 8! The eldest of whom goes to my youngest son's school. I really don't know how that family affords uniforms for the kids because at the primary school her other children go to (same one my youngest went to) have to wear uniforms as well as the older child. That's at least 5 of her 8 children kitted out in uniforms. Very expensive!
Date: 12/13/2007 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 14464    I agree that acording to the stipulations your child was in no wrong. I have to agree that they expect for parents to have all the money in the world and to fork it out whenever needed on there part.
Date: 12/13/2007 11:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 53558    I don't know what to say....
Date: 12/14/2007 9:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 64498    Hope the letter works the demerit was unjustified in my opinion - Bunny
