In the space of 4 weeks both my boys were injured at school! First off was my youngest. He was in a PE lesson warming up for football when he slipped over. At the same time, a boy had deliberately tripped over another. The falling boy’s knee landed just on the edge of my youngest son's left eye. He had a huge bruise! He was very upset. Thankfully he’s ok now.
Last Wednesday, I received a phone call at work from my eldest son’s school informing me that during break time, a child had pulled over my son's wheelchair while he was inside it! They said my son hadn’t hit his head as he’d saved himself with his right arm. Fortunately, his arm wasn’t broken but it was badly grazed so they applied a bandage. I asked if he cried and they said he didn’t. He was back to his usual self, singing and chatting, having normal movement in his right arm. They said the child had never done anything like that before and suspected his medication dosage needed altering.
In both cases, you know what mother's are like, we make an extra fuss of our children. My youngest son lapped up the extra attention but my eldest was just so unfazed by his experience. Bearing in mind his limited speech due to his disability, the only reference he made to his arm was to say, "Take the elastic band off," (elastic band is what he called the bandage).
