GRR THIS MADE ME MAD!!

Ok after reading Spiritchilds post i thought about writing my experience from yesterday.

Since Thursday i have been sick. I've been having sharp cramps in my lower back and sides, nausea, light headedness, cold chills which would then lead to me feeling over heated, and a 102 temp. So basically from Sat on i have been laying in bed. Well, my work had told me that i cannot come back until i see a doctor (even though i have told them that i have no insurance).

So on Mon afternoon, my fiancee and i went into the doctors office, and had a couple of tests done. They found pus in my urine and whenever they touch my kidney area I would flintch in pain. So of course, they sent me to the E.R (after teeling me that the ER would be waiting for us...ect).

So we get to the ER, we wait in the lobby for about an hour, I finally get taken into the back where they start checking the heartbeat of the child. After that, we're left alone for another hour while calls to my OBGYN are made. (I haven't seen him in a month and a half since of my insurance situation. I also listed him as my primary physician since i don't see doctors that often.)

Anyways, he tells the hospital that since he hasn't seen me in awhile that I am not his patient. So upon hours and hours of being there, I'm told that the nurses and docts. do not understand why my doctor had sent me there. I can also here the nurses laughing at me because I don't know who my doctor is outside of my "curtain wall" room, and the blood and urine test turned up with nothing, even though my kidneys still hurt when they would tap them.

So basically I was told to drink only clear fluids, eat soft foods (bread, crackers, bananas, and boiled rice) and to take Tylenol when i have pain.

And now i'm getting a $1600 (including my doctors bill) to be told to do when i have been doing for the past 5 days.

Date: 9/18/2007 8:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    Medical care in the US is in such terrible shape right now. It's time for legislation to step in and start setting some higher standards for care. This system simply is not working.
Date: 9/18/2007 8:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 62849    Your urine test wasn't negative if they found mucus in it. Call them back and ask for your results, and get a second opinion. If you have a kidney infection, you need to get on some meds.
Date: 9/18/2007 8:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62887    I agree, it seems like when i went to the hospital the 1st time when i did have insurance they were completely sweet to me. This time they were just horrid.
Date: 9/18/2007 8:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 62849    And if you're pregnant, UTIs are common and can become kidney infections if not treated...
Date: 9/18/2007 8:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62887    The 1st urine test i guess had puss in it from what the doctors office found. So the hospital took the urine straight from my bladder for the second test. (the doct. office figured it may be a kidney infection) I ended up having to be hooked up to an IV since i was dehydrated. So when I had a blood test done, the needle went straight through the first vein, and so by the 3rd needle poke they barley got enough blood.
Date: 9/18/2007 8:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 21764    gosh, this makes me so mad as well.. i really hate our health care system.. grrr.. i am so sorry, i wish there is something i could do for you..this makes me feel so helpless just reading it so i can't imagine how you feel..i really hope you get to feeling better soon and maybe somehow you can get ahold of another dr. for a second opinion to find out what is wrong.. *big hugz*
Date: 9/18/2007 8:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    I totally agree that our medical system is just the saddest!! Are you unable to get medicaid since, you are pregnant?? I would check with your state's Dhs office. It will usually pay for pregnant mothers and then, later thier children that is an idea. Whatever you do don't fall for that medicaid buy in program. You are only allowed a certain amount of visits per year and only three prescriptions a month and you pay about 1/4 of your income. Anyhow, I would try to see if medicaid is available to you and certainly get a second opinion. ((HUGS)) I hope all turns out well for you.
Date: 9/18/2007 8:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 64160    I am so terribly sorry I have heard this type of treatment so many times...when I do run across a neat (doc or nurse) I think how lucky this place is to have them! ~GODBLESS~
Date: 9/18/2007 8:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62887    The thing is my obgyn is the one who said that they arent going to see me until i have insurance so i have been applying for insurance from the state but its taking awhile
Date: 9/18/2007 8:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i don't see how your urine test could come back clean IF They found pus in it... it's not clean if there is something in it... it's crazy how much they can charge for some tests... unfortunately i don't know anything medical wise IF it's a UTI(urninary track infection) drinking pure cranberry juice will help clear it up(not the punch and no sugar added stuff) other then that.. i don't know anything else helpwise.. other then trying to seek a second opinion(what is only going to cost more money frustratingly enough)
Date: 9/18/2007 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    You can speed the process of the states program by doing this... Two things one find a medicaid health advocate in your state. This is the person usually found in the hospital whom handles medicaid for you so that you don't have to try to do it. Have all of your papers ready and on hand make copies. Have your doctor's notes handy that state you are indeed pregnant and by how many months, your latest medical expenses, if you work show at three recent pay stubs. Then, go to your local wic office. Many people say but they only give you milk and cheese. This is wrong yes they give you milk, cheese, beans, juice and etc. but, what else they do is exams to make sure you and the baby are doing well. Wic is usually instant approval if, you give them all of the above things and you meet the guidelines which are slightly higher than medicaid guidelines. They can also help expediate medicaid if, you speak with the wic advocate. Hope that helps you some.
Date: 9/18/2007 10:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 4995    Can you maybe message ICUNURSE? Maybe she could help. I am SO sorry you went through this. What a TERRIBE hospital. Our health care system is the worst in the world. Dont stress about your bill...youpay bits and pieces when you can..and listen to Texas Angi...thats some good advice...health clinics help people for free. I go to one and I cant pay ANYTHING. Hey,health care is health care no matter what. For the sake of your sweet little baby barge in there like an AMAZON and DEMAND someone see you at DHS healthcare. You are in my prayers tonight. drink tons of water and get rest. *hugs*
Date: 9/18/2007 10:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    I have heard about how bad stuff can get in america with health care, And I do not mean to say mean stuff to americans. I mean australia dose not exactily have free health care, So we are not perefect. But I still feel bad for the sick that live in america After seeing the movie sicko, And seeing these posts on USM.
Date: 9/19/2007 12:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 26303    OMG your health system is in a real mess. $1600, thats outrageous! On top of that you are feeling miserable. Gosh, I can't believe how bad it is over there. People whinge here, but in comparision, we have nothing to complain about. Gee, I hope you feel better real soon, and that everything at work turns out okay too. Gosh, still can't believe the system over there. *leaves post shaking head*
Date: 9/19/2007 8:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 21839    our medical systems suck! seems the only ones who benefit are the doctors padding their pocket, it is so outrageous what he have to pay.. no wonder there are so many uninsured... I hope things get better for you...
Date: 9/19/2007 9:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 64498    Nurses and doctors can be very insensitive not sure if it is because they are over worked or are tired of HMO's but something is not right a second opinion might be in order. BUt it is easy to say what to do when you are not in the same situation. Good luck and keep us posted Love and Hugs - Bunny Mom
Date: 9/19/2007 1:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 63241    This is more proof how our healthcare system needs some serious changes. I'm sorry you had to go through this and the bill is sooo ridiculous!
Date: 10/24/2007 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 56176    i d be mad to ,drink cranberry juice that may help a little prayers huggs
