The very first GPS dog was given to its new owner yesterday.
No, not a robot, but a real dog which was rescued from a dog shelter and trained to take his new owner from home to work, the store or the post office and back home again. The 22-year old Anke Janssen suffered brain damage during birth which caused a disability to remember routes and the lack of orientation. Her mom used to take her to work and back, but now the dog is taking her, staying with her all day and then leads her back home. This means that she has gained a bit more independence.
If this case turns out to be successfull, then more dogs will be trained for this kind of tasks. If you ask me : a win-win situation - a dog saved from the shelter and a handicaped person with more independance.
