I Got my MRI results back

I got my MRI results back yesterday, but was immediately put on medication to take that made me super drowsy, therefore rendering me almost useless with making a post then. Please forgive me, for not updating sooner than now.

I got a call from my doctor's office around 4 Pm, yesterday. The nurse was really nice, and said that my results were in. She told me that it wasn't good news, but it wasn't really bad news either. I was so nervous after her saying that, I almost cried. She said that what I have wrong with me, is actually a huge cluster of polyps or benign like tumors around my sinus' pressing up against the nerves that lead to my brain.

She said they were very big, and that normally this kind of thing is easily treated with medication, and that the majority of the time medication reduces them to next to nothing. My case though, because they were so big and in such a large cluster, that she said she honestly felt that medication would not knock them out. She said that she wants me to immediately take the medication that she called into my pharmacist's office, to try to kickstart it, and hopefully some or a good bit of them will shrink and also get rid of the inflammation as well.

I asked her what would happen if they didn't completely shrink out. (At this point, I've never heard of polyps around sinus' so, I was kind of freaking out.) She told me that with the size of them, that if the medication doesn't get rid of them all together, that Surgery would be the next option. She told me they were going to make an appointment with a local ENT (Ear, nose and throat) doctor, and would be calling me to let me know when it was.

I got that call today. She told me that my appointment was tomorrow at 3 pm at a local ENT's office. Which I've heard is the best around here, (he is also a surgeon too), but that I'd have to have $50 up front to see him because I do not have insurance. I told her that would be fine (thank goodness I do have a little bit saved- or it probably wouldn't be.) So, tomorrow I go to get examined by the ENT, and find out what he thinks about the situation. Again, I'm left being nervous.

So, it's not good news, but not bad news so far. It's actually on the better note because this way, I KNOW what has been causing my migraines now, and I know that it's at least for now not life threatening. THANK GOD! It is something that is relatively easy to treat, from what I've been able to find out about it via the internet. I do feel like a weight has been lifted, because I honestly felt that I had a brain tumor or something else really really wrong with me. I was (still am a little about the lump, at least) scared that if it turned out to be serious, that I'd not be able to really find anyone to help me. I'm not afraid of dying, I am though, VERY afraid of not being able to see my 2 year old son grow up. That thought hasn't much left my mind until I got these answers about my head. Now I feel that I can breath again, at least a bit easier.

My mammogram is scheduled for Tuesday, July 31st, so I will update you all on how that goes too.

I THANK you all, with all my being. I really feel that all the support I've gotten, all the thoughts, and prayers have helped. I don't know if they changed any outcomes or anything like that, but I'd like to think so. Either way, I cannot tell you just how much it has meant to me, for all the messages, replies and just all around support. I don't have many offline friends, but you guys surely make up for that in a big way. I love you all. Thank you very very very much.

I'm not out of the woods yet, but it can really only go up from here. I'm able to smile, even though this medication does kick my rear. LOL

*huge huge hugs to you all*

Date: 7/26/2007 6:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 64439    Nasal polyps result from chronic inflammation in the lining of your nose or sinuses, but just what triggers the inflammation isn't always clear. Although nasal polyps can affect anyone, they're more common in people older than 40 and in adults and children with conditions such as asthma, chronic sinus infections, hay fever and cystic fibrosis.Medications are the most common treatment for small nasal polyps. Surgery may be needed to remove larger growths, but polyps frequently return. The procedure, called a polypectomy, is performed on an outpatient basis. After polypectomy, you'll be treated for any underlying inflammation, usually with corticosteroid nasal sprays and sometimes with antibiotics or oral steroids. Everything will be ok, and i will keep you in my thoughts and prayer. God bless you Amanda. Hugs.

He said that they basically cut/scrape the sinus cavity. He returned to work in 2-3 days and didnt have any problems. Try not to worry!! Hugs!

Date: 7/26/2007 8:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    A "huge cluster of polyps" requires Endoscopic Sinus surgery as opposed to a simple polypectomy. I'm sure the ENT surgeon will reccomend surgery. I'm certainly relieved to hear it wasn't cancer. Whew! *breaths* Amanda, stay cool, dear. It'll all work out. We're all thinking of you and love you.
Date: 7/26/2007 8:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 12823    I hate to be the annoying positive Polly but I am glad they are not cancerous. On the down side, I am sorry you are having to go through this at all. You know I'm here for you and am rooting for you! :-D
Date: 7/26/2007 8:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 27215    Thank you so much for posting and letting us know what is going on now and I will holler it out, PRAISE THE LORD, he is soooo good to us. Now we need to pray that those things will shrink on their own and you won't have to have any surgery. Be sure to keep us updated on your appointment with the ENT doctor, but only when you feel up to it.........Much love and prayers are still coming your way............
Date: 7/26/2007 8:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Amanda-I am glad they know what is causing the headaches. And I am deeply relieved that they are benign. I am sorry you must have surgery BUT the good news is, they should all be removed at once. {{{hugs}}} Stay Strong Amanda, I have not stopped saying Petitions for you.
Date: 7/26/2007 9:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    What a relief Amanda. I'm so glad that the migranes are curable. Good luck with the mammogram. Lets hope you get a great outcome there too! ((hugs))

Date: 7/26/2007 10:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    Well if they are benign that is absolutely wonderful news hunny, now you know the reason for the awful headaches....I will be keeping you in my prayers darlin!!
Date: 7/26/2007 11:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Praise God and I'm betting that causes a heck of a headach. I'm so glad its not a brain problem. Thanks for letting us know and I'm praying that all the lump is, is a thing called cyctitis, "sp" I have one under my right breast and it usually doesnt bug me too much unless I have too much caffine, chocolate and can't remember what else the doc said would set it off. Good luck in all things and my prayers are with you.

Date: 7/26/2007 11:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 27403    That sounds like really good news to me. I wonder if that is what causes cluster headaches, which are very much like migranes. The news is bad, also, like you said, but at least it is something that can be treated. I am really happy that they found what it was. Now, just try to get through this rest of this with good grace and as few headaches as possible. My prayers to you, Amanda! Love and Light

Date: 7/27/2007 6:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    if it makes you feel better... I know 2 people who have dealt with this. My mother-in-law had one huge polyp that was causing drainage that resulted in major infections regularly. She's been responsive to the steroid spray and it's shrunk quite a bit. My uncle sounds more like you... he had clusters and had to have them surgically removed, but it was pretty successful, too. He still has sinus issues, but he can function now with little head pain. I'm glad it's not anything more serious for you... it's serious enough. I hope things go even better with the mammogram. You're in my thoughts ;o)

Date: 8/16/2007 4:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    Hey girlie girl, keep your head up. I remember when I had my first MRI I had watched a Jet Li movie, or pieces of it while flipping around the channels and he gets stuck in the machine. It made me feel extra nervous. I hope you find answers soon, that's the hardest part is not knowing
