Date: 7/17/2007 7:03:00 PM From Authorid: 64497 Thats crazy. While I don't believe in his views, I don't think he should've come under criticism for his belief. Although it is an interesting theory. |
Date: 7/17/2007 7:38:00 PM From Authorid: 21867 I guess in some ways its understandable...I do not condone it, but I do understand it. Any group that is based upon a set paradigm, a set dogma will certainly eject those within it who then turn and refute it. Happens is so many other walks of life and organisations outside of religion based ones. I however would take issue with Pearson in regards to this bit: "Pearson said people who believe in Hell create it for themselves and others. "People who believe in devils and demons become that in consciousness and they act it out," he added." I certainly believe in those entities...though I don't become that in consciousness nor act them out...quite the opposite in fact. |
Date: 7/17/2007 8:28:00 PM From Authorid: 48809 Give this guy a medal...more and more churches are beginning to throw the idea of a fiery , burning hell out the window as a relic of the past. The churches are falling apart and they will eventually be a thing of the past. |
Date: 7/17/2007 9:34:00 PM From Authorid: 62798 Just proves some people are religious masochists. They want to be terrified they will be cast into the pits. Either that or if they lokse the hell concept to fall back on, they will have no were to "send" those they codemn for not believing as they do. |
Date: 7/17/2007 9:55:00 PM From Authorid: 21867 Interesting thought Posey...though I doubt that Churchs will ever become a thing of the past. As long as there is Man, there will be some form of Church. The only thing that may change will be the focal point/s and the rules upon which those who are members of that 'church' focus. IF all churchs were to be dissolved today it wouldn't take long for a new church to grow...for eventually people will similar beliefs will converge and *someone* will in some way *rise* from that group into the role of some form of *leader*. As with all groups it will be based upon a reasonably shared philosophy...and so...a new church is born... |
Date: 7/17/2007 10:08:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 24924 Regardless of what anyone believes, there are a lot of people who think you are going to Hell. Catholics think Protestants are going to Hell. Protestants think Catholics are going to Hell. Shias think the Sunnis are going to Hell and Sunnis think the Shias are going to Hell (and they seem rather intent on helping each other get there faster), and they both think Catholics and Protestants are going to Hell. Of course the Catholics and Protestants return the compliment. And they pretty much all agree that the Jews are going to Hell. The Infidels are going to hell. And everyone KNOWS they are right. ummmm.... |

Egan, you said "I certainly believe in those entities...". Do you really? REALLY? Do you believe I will go to this hell? I understood that I am a good , moral person. I don't steal. I don't kill. I try to live my life as best as I can. But somehow that isn't good enough for the Christian god. Tell me, what do you consider (a crime) so horrendous that deserves ETERNAL BURNING in hell? |

Date: 7/18/2007 12:51:00 AM From Authorid: 62983 Wow... This has really caught my attention. I used to watch Carlton Pearson all the time. It's very interesting that his views have changed. |
Date: 7/18/2007 1:57:00 AM From Authorid: 15070 He questioned set-doctrine (dogma), did some investigating, decided what he was teaching was no longer accurate (in his opinion), and now he is shunned. Sounds to me like he stated teaching his conscience. I will watch the special on Friday. |
Date: 7/18/2007 3:05:00 AM From Authorid: 21867 Hi Catherine. I think we have our wires crossed somewhat, so my apologies if my reply was confusing. I do have a firm belief in those entities of evil...and that belief comes from personal experience of - I firmly believe - having dealt with them over the years...and not just myself, but also alongside others in various things we do. My belief in them in no way translates to any belief that you may be hell-bound...so again, my apologies if my reply gave any such suggestion, it certainly wasn't at all my intention. As for the topic of Hell...well, I'm somewhat of a believer in that concept...though I must admit to not being overly comfortable with the whole 'Hell fire, burning pit' concept of Hell. In my understanding I see any 'Hell' as such being more a personalised thing, rather than a generic 'one size fits all' thing. By that I mean I believe in the possibility of there perhaps being 'multiple' Hells as it were...where ones penance or whatever is almost custom-tailored to that individual. I'm certainly not a believer in any 'One Path, One Church, One Truth' and all others who don't align with that go to Hell kind of belief that some religions have. Instead I see it in terms of the saying "By a Mans actions so shall he be known" (yes, I know thats rather gender-biased, but its applicable to both male and female). The *Good* or *bad* of a person - to me anyway - is reflected in what they do...not what they believe. So no Catherine, I certainly do not believe you are destined for any horrible firey furnance simply because you don't hold some specific set of beliefs. Again, my apologies for any confusion. |
Date: 7/18/2007 6:30:00 AM From Authorid: 48809 Agent Smith...I seem to have cut my reply here too short when I said that eventually the churches will be a thing of the past... you are right that there will always be a religion...but not what we have today. We are told that coming into the new world we will have a one world religion which will be the ORIGINAL Teachings of Jesus and not the mish mash version of Christianity that we have today. The ORIGIONAL Teachings of Jesus were based on Love and Forgiveness and not on Fear and Punishment! I believe the terrible lie that "Jesus died to save us from our sins" will be cast out too and those that teach this lie will finally understand that this teaching removes every one that believes this from the responsibility of their own actions and puts what they have done on the back of Jesus instead of their own and this is not what Jesus intended at all.As more and more Light comes into the world...we will see people awakening and throwing out what no longer makes any sense to them. |
Date: 7/18/2007 9:42:00 AM From Authorid: 63194 I disagree that churches will become a thing of the past. They are growing at a fast pace, especially the evil evangelical type - What we need to do is start taxing these things. They generate billions and billions of dollars nationwide, I see no reason why they shouldn't be taxed, especially when they are allowed to have politcal sway. - And because the majority of this type are the most apt to support Bushes failing attempt to avenge daddy, I say it should be their almighty dollar that pays for it. |
Date: 7/18/2007 10:03:00 AM From Authorid: 48809 Ben, when the new world comes in .. that is exactly what is said will happen... a ONE World Religion, which will be the ORIGINAL Teachings of Jesus. I do agree with taxing the churches and always have... however, I doubt that this would lighten the burden on our own backs though.lol. |
Date: 7/18/2007 10:23:00 AM From Authorid: 63194 Well, no, lol. The burden wont be lifted, or at least somewhat alleviated, until we remove the government and start new. |
Date: 7/18/2007 10:49:00 AM From Authorid: 46527 In my opinion, any religion that needs a 'threat' to make its followers behave is really no religion worth following. |
Date: 7/18/2007 11:05:00 AM From Authorid: 63194 !~ - Conservatism and Liberalism are religions~! |
Date: 7/18/2007 12:20:00 PM From Authorid: 48809 LSR, I agree with you! There was a time when only the Priests were allowed to have a Bible . The people would then have to come to the priests for any spiritual information they might require and so the threats of hell fire and eternal damnation were invented to frighten people to keep coming to church..... and of course there was a "fee" for this service which was called Tithing and it worked so well that they are still using it yet today! |

I believe that the internet is changing things in our society. We have access to thoughts and ideas from all across the globe instantaneously, and further, it's allowing for the free exchange of ideas. This can be a boon for reason and logic, and many people are for the first time hearing ideas that counter those with which they were indoctrinated. Religion is evolving, and I see Carlton Pearson as a small step in that evolution. |
Date: 7/18/2007 1:39:00 PM From Authorid: 48809 I think the same thing Catherine that this will be just the start of something new in the world today. I doubt that Carlton Pearson will be out of work for very long... there are so many people that are tired of the same old stuff being told to them every sunday when they go to church and yet nothing changes for them. Some are beginning to question now and asking why if everything in the Bible is true and they have all done what they were supposed to do... then why is the world in such a terrific mess today ? I believe that it will be like a breath of fresh air for people to hear something new that people can actually believe in and not be afraid of. |
