I'm enlisting - Jestr

So after a couple years of trying to make it in the real world on a retail budget I broke down the other day and did something I thought I'd never do. Signed up for the US Marine Corp.

I'm getting mixed reviews on it. My parents are happy as are my brothers. my uncle, a gunnery sgt, is probably the most excited. Me, I'm nervous, ecstatic and introspective all at the same time.

When the recruiter and I finished the other day I literally cried the other day as I felt a huge burden ripped from me like God was saying "bout time you realized your calling." I'm just worried I can't hack it and that eagle, globe and anchor at the end of the dark tunnel will never be mine.

Tomorrow I go an hour south, away from my family for 2 days to do my physical and ASVAB(basically tells them what jobs i'd be good at, the last time i took it i scored in the top 3% of the US). There I'll raise my hand and begin my journey into trying to obtain graduation day with honors.

Lately what makes it scary though is I'm being reminded of myself when my dad was still army and we moved, I would get the "im outta here soon" bug and not give a care about anything and basically hold no ties to my current residence.

so yeah...

Date: 7/8/2007 9:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 61968    Congrats on the enlistment. Its a big step in anyones life to join the military. Especially in these trying times, my hat is off to you sir. The Marines are a good choice, I started my military career there, and am currently a Drill Sergeant in the Army. Make the best of it and enjoy. Do what your DI's say without question or fail and you will do just fine, and try to be in some sort of shape before you arrive to Boot Camp, it will make it a little less painful.
Date: 7/8/2007 10:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    I'm proud of you son. If you end up being shipped out to where the war is going on I will keep you in my prayers. Ya know we need to know where our kids are don't ya? I wish you the best.
