I Know where your coming from. I went to a catholic school for 8 years, and by the time I was 14, I was done with christanity. I recently found ironically the Insane Clown Posse, and how they talk about "god" especially on the Shangri-la cd. It was really enlightening. |

What I think you should do is read "Good Omens" - by terry pratchett and Neil gaiman - It is an amazing story, though it is fictional - but fiction or no, once you've read through the entire thing you'll be left thinking "Now thats an idea" - Again, it's fiction... but its great and somewhat goes with this question. |

The fact of the matter is, in my opinion, if we assume every last word in the bible is the one and only truth, then we must also then see God as a cruel god - Now, if we can look at the bible and realize the FACT that it was written by man, we can likely find that God may be a jolly ol' fellow... happier than a pig in you know what... and that it has been man who has made him the jerk that the likes of Falwell and Robertson would have you believe. |

But the most interesting thing about it is that the authors meant it as somewhat of a comedic story. |

Love discussion as such because it really makes you think and wonder. Reminds me a bit of the gnostic belief that the God of the Bible, the one who created the Earth, is not the one true God but a lesser God who is cruel and unjust and his domain, this earth, is hell. |

What I was taught was that I shouldnt always believe everything I am taught - and I don't. I try to be a little tiny bit more intelligent than that. |

Well the thing you have to relize about the Bible is yes it was wrote by men,but by men in different parts of the world at different times..and yet it all fits together. God is far from mean, there are lots of things he does that i don't understand why,but then again if I understood everything he did and why..he wouldn't be much of a God. Lots of people look at the Bible as having a whole list of things you can't do..however just speaking from my experiance,it was not the Bible that lead me not to do certain things anymore,it was the Holy spirt. I was raised catholic too, and I never really bought into the "catholic way", I found out later that the catholics do lot of things that aren't good. It's sad that you fell away-but honestly I don't think you ever really found God in the first place. |

Being raised a christian and being a christian are two very different things. I know because I've experienced both. I looked into Wicca and some other religions, tried a church completely different than the one I grew up in, eventually came back to Lutheran Missouri Synod church. Sometimes we have to do a little soul-searching and seek out God or whomever we believe in. I hope you find what you're looking for, ie the answers you seek. (((hugs))) |

Jimmy, you may be right that perhaps I didn't ever find God to begin with. I never considered that but it makes sense. I was always forced to go to church and act christian but I did it all out of guilt. Now I feel the guilt that I know longer go to church or act Christian but I know at least I'm no longer pretending. And Spirit Child I like your husbands theory, I could agree with it totally. |
