Horseshoes... Lucky or not? *~Ranger~*

When I was a boy while my grandmother and myself were picking huckle berries in the woods, we passed by an old overgrown house which she said a man had murdered his family. She told me to never go in that place, cause some real bad spirits once dwelled there. You guys know me.... I had to know for myself what the big deal was all about. So, the first chance I got I went back.

I cant say I did not have a bad feeling and was scared, because I was. The closer I got the worse I felt but I pushed on. When I arrived, it took all the bravery I could muster to enter that house. I walk in the front door and I started to feel deathly sick on my stomach. Having enough, I turned around to leave when I notice horseshoes nailed around the entire door way. 21 horseshoes all together. I thought: "Some luck these people had"! Horseshoes were considered lucky because they were made by blacksmyths, which is also considered a very lucky trade. Because they worked with elemental fire and magical iron, they were thought to have special powers. With every blow of the hammer the blacksmith embeded power into the iron. Smyths were favored by kings and the court wizards alike. Every king had a magical sword and knive to empower him in battle. Every wizard needed magical swords and knives to protect him just case he was fooling around with darkness.

In the case of the above mentioned people, I think they used the horseshoes around the door to keep evil out, because Iron binds demons, but maybe it was to late and they locked the demon in. What do you think USM?

Date: 4/25/2007 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    horseshoes must be hung "upright" with the prongs upwards. Every house I have lived in since I was a small child had an aluminum (racing) horseshoe hung-up in it. If the prongs face downwards, your luck "runs out".

Date: 4/25/2007 8:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 62998    You have to believe it for it to work, so if you believe in Horse shoe luck, they will be. If you don't they won't. That is the trust power of magick I can ever give you. Nothing that isn't believed, will work unless you believe it
Date: 4/25/2007 8:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    Typo, 21 horseshoes... sounds like they believed it to me lol. Ranger, my guess would be that sometimes something more than luck is needed.
Date: 4/25/2007 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 62998    I wasn't getting into the numbers that they had, the number 21 to numerologists is a very powerful number, so I would doubt that would be a coincidence.
Date: 4/25/2007 8:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61901    True DMK... In rural North Carolina people did things such as this because it was past from generation to generation. I once heard a old story about women was being beaten by demons at night after she went to sleep... Someone came over and drove a Iron railroad spike over her door. When asked about the demons later. The old women stated "Lord, them demons worked all night trying to pull out that spike and forgot all about me".

Date: 4/29/2007 2:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 45906    my great grandma who lived to be 95 who passed away a few years ago told me something very alike to what you posted with the spirits... its said that the iron keeps the bad spirits occipied. and a horseshoe has even more power if it is worn by a horse for a while it may go with the ponding on the ground along with the pounding from the blacksmith... interesting....
Date: 4/29/2007 2:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    Awesome story, Ranger. I never knew this before about the horseshoes and how they were embued with luck. Thanks for the information. HUGS
Date: 5/23/2009 9:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 13283    Sometimes the demons are too strong and they can overcome the powers of a horseshoe . It also depends on the people who use the horseshoes . I had 3 , but one of them got picked up by a fellow gambler at Lone Star Park . I wish him luck ! Razzy aka
