I am on full agreement with you on this. I always tell my fiance' that we're not getting a single species of anything if we don't look into it first. You need to know a LOT about an animal before you call Joe Shmoe about his lizard in the ad. My fiance' hates that one of my big peeves is seeing people and they way they walk their dog. They think "Its my dog I'll walk it how I want to" but that is not true. If "you" want to own a dog you must know the proper way to walk a dog. "You" (general you) shouldn't allow a dog to walk in front of "you" unless you want the dog to believe it is in command. That is why some people go around chasing their dog around the neighborhood because they decided to open the screen door for the pizza and the dog darted out now they can't get the dog because they dog isn't going to stop. Pet PEEVE. I think if you want your kid to have a dog make sure you let your kid know HOW to walk the dog, how to FEED it, how to pick its poop up, how to train it. Every last thing that a kid should know about a dog should be taught BEFORE you say "How cute! Lets get Jr. a puppy" no its not just a puppy it a thing with instincts and imho feelings. Thanks for bringing this topic up. It makes me want to write one. My fiance says that I am the way I am because my dad MADE me be that way. Well every parent should MAKE their kid have responsibilities before they get a lizard, a rabbit, or a cat. Don't just hand your kids an animal if you don't make that kid understand the guidelines. |

And on top of that make yourself understand the guidelines as well. Never kid a 12 year old full responsibility over any animal. Help out. Its YOUR house not Jr's. Get some control. Get to the library or get on your computer and do some research. Amen once again. Excellent topic. |

Never give* a 12 year old is what I meant. And all time that I refer to "You" I am reffering to the general population as a whole. My neighborhood is filled with people just "Having animals cause its cute" |

Date: 4/17/2007 2:07:00 PM From Authorid: 46527 7 cats, 2 dogs...all in good health, all well fed and all taken to the vet if necessary. I don't allow my kids to have small animals simply because I don't want to look after them, and I certainly wouldn't allow them to suffer. Ad & I have had loads of different pets in our home over the years and we've always researched their habits and looked after them well. Our cats have a cat door and are free to come and go as they please. Our dogs have the run of the garden all the time that we are home. Any other animals that we have kept have always had oversized rather than undersized housing. I agree that many people do house their animals in less than ideal conditions, but I disagree with the part where you mention animals being taken from their natural environment and just plop it in a glass tank. The majority of pets sold by pet stores are bred in captivity and have never known any different to being kept in a cage or tank, release them into the wild and they'd die within an hour, most likely by being attacked by a truly 'wild' animal. |
Date: 4/17/2007 4:31:00 PM From Authorid: 8243 Too bad this doesn't work for babies. It's amazing how many people become parents and have no clue how to take care of a human being. You don't get a handbook for that either. |
Date: 4/17/2007 5:19:00 PM From Authorid: 64110 AMEN Pkid. I DEFINATELY have a problem with people having kids and not taking care of them. |
Date: 4/17/2007 5:20:00 PM From Authorid: 64110 OH LOL I Just noticed that you said "WHINING CHILDREN". I am guessing that you like animals and DON'T LIKE KIDS??? Makes so much sense!!!! |
Date: 4/17/2007 5:44:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 6915 Jslin, you assume I was talking about you. Guilty conscience? Im an education mjr, Im going to be a teacher. And yes, kids whine. |
Date: 4/18/2007 12:24:00 AM From Authorid: 12862 That was interesting. I agree with you. People who don't take special care of their pets don't deserve them!!! |
Date: 4/18/2007 8:05:00 PM From Authorid: 15075 Shimmer Kiss when you buy a pet it is usually to learn about the pet it self. You don't get a manual with everything including children. Every child is different in his/her own way. The same thing can go for pets. And as I read you didn't throughly read up on the whole subject yourself. Quit trying to be miss know it all. Keep your 2 sense to yourself. And like I said before if you can't say something nice don't say it at all. |

Haha, Im sorry I wont keep my '2 sense' to myself. I'm not talking about children, but thank you so much for explaining that each child is different. I had no idea. I don't buy a pet to learn about it..in most cases I take in my animals to rescue them from bad conditions. You learn about an animal before you buy it and @ the very least provide a suitable environment. In this case I am miss know it all. According to all in agreement, it seems Im not the only one who feels this way. This post has nothing to do about being ''nice.'' Get your head out of the clouds and back to reality..you know, real life, where things arn't always nice. |
