I was wondering if any of you on here could help me with this.

A friend of mine and I that are involved in the local sports car circuit want to create an online car sales buisness like autotrader or something along those lines.

we dont have an idea of website costs or adverisement big enough to be effective outside of my knowledge of promoting bands and concerts which is very grass roots.

so what i am asking is if anyone on here has a buisness whats the best way to go about doing all of this?

Date: 3/24/2007 3:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    Online-- it's all about the design of your website and your search engine position for certain keywords. I would start by first looking at how many similar type sites are out there on the web-- to see how competitive this niche is-- and what they're doing with their sites, to decide if you can compete and if there's anything you can do better. You need to start looking into website design. Your biggest costs up front are going to be the design and the backend system that manages the orders-- which can get pretty expensive. After that, you're going to have to invest a lot in online advertising. You need to research web marketing, search engine optimization and pay per click advertising. Pay-per-click campaigns are pretty tricky to manage if you don't have experience. I'd almost recommend taking on a third partner-- some kind of webmaster who has experience in all these areas. And that's just the web part of it. Running the physical side of the business is a thing in itself.

Like, are you going to supply the parts yourself, or are you going to a be a site for third party suppliers? In which case, how do you motivate the suppliers to sell stuff through you? And, do they, like, put the advertisement for the parts up themselves, or do they go through you? And, how do they get paid once there's an order-- do you charge them some sort of fee or percentage...if so, how much? Many, many things to consider.
