20,000 & Your MAD?

20,000, yea that’s a lot of people, but do you have a better plan? Citizens are up in arms about Bush’s new plan of action yet offer no better solution. Yes, more troops will die, more civilians will also. More money will be spent; more time will be focused on this matter. You can argue those points all you want but how atrocious would it look if the U.S. packed up and left Iraq in a mess? Are we the nation that wants to be laughed at for leaving a job unfinished? Wouldn’t we be looked at as dense, weak, and defeated for not accomplishing our goals?

You can talk about the ‘should have’s’ and the ‘would have’s’ all you want but the truth is the past is gone and the present is all we can focus on. Were there better answers? Sure. My better answer is to have done this a long time ago, with all our forces, instead of slowly feeding men into Iraq to keep things regulated. But that doesn’t matter. I see no other solution than to use all of the remaining energy and efforts and combine them into one powerful force. There’s no slipping out unheard now.

Date: 1/10/2007 11:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 63575    Well - as far as Iraq goes - I forget who said it - but he summed it up in two words that would solve the Iraqi question: "Remember Korea" We still have troops in Korea - more bases are being built in Iraq and it is my understanding that these bases look more permanant then temporary...
Date: 1/11/2007 2:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 63289    The whole problem with the Iraq war is that there are 3 differant factions in that country,Kurds,Sunnis, and the shiates. They will never support democracy to all just each others faction. Until we face that fact this is a non winnable war[probably non winnable anyways]. There are some people who believe toppling Saddam was the big mistake b/c he was the buffer between Iran and Syria. And no matter what added stability to the region. Since I think this is a war we shouldnt have been in ,in the first place I support just getting out of there.
Date: 1/11/2007 3:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 63026    adding more troops to korea didnt win it either. The problem is you got all these countries who are sending more people in to fight the troops. 20,000 more troops wont win us anything. Just bring them on home.
Date: 1/11/2007 4:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 19613    It might be the situation that there is no good solution to the current mess. Kinda pessimistic but there you go...
Date: 1/11/2007 5:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 63194    I am all for it as long as we hang Bush along side Suddam.
Date: 1/11/2007 7:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 62383    That part of the world will always be at war. We just butt in every now and then. They have been fighting for thousands of years... think we can solve that? haha no.
Date: 1/11/2007 8:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    My opinion.........its all going to be like a big piling of arms in the center of Iraq........when the coalition forces yells go as we are leaving.....those who get the most and start the killing will be in power.........until the others get "hooked up" with arms.....
Date: 1/11/2007 8:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 62918    We lost the reason for the war in the first two years at the most. We're fighting in a civil war that's not ours to fight. I mean, this has been going on since the Bible. No joke. It's a religious war. Thus, it'll NEVER end!!! It isn't fair for our troops. This is the Vietnam War all over again, except none of this will be solved. I just hope that unlike that war, when the troops all come home, they're treated wonderfully and fairly, ya know? I just think that we need to yank them all out. No more troops there. Bring our people on home!
Date: 1/11/2007 8:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 62918    Oh, and, even though I was raised Republican, I'm with Ben. Bush is done with. We should kick him out now.
Date: 1/11/2007 9:36:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 6915    For those of you who want to pull out now, what do you propose? We cannot just leave and say 'Cya,' I believe their hate and in turn the attacks on the U.S. would increase even more. Easyrider, I agree with you on that, there is no brining peace to those people who are constantly at war over religous matters.
Date: 1/11/2007 9:37:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 6915    Dragon, LoL no point in kicking him out, he's almost finished anyways.
Date: 1/11/2007 9:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    Let me say........I am not indicating an immediate withdrawal....but I lived the "Vietnamization" of the Viet Nam war.....and it failed. I think that the efforts need to be turned more over to the Iraqi people.
Date: 1/11/2007 9:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 63194    The problem is that Bush supporters LOVE to think that the dems/liberals want to simply pull out -( a concept they disagree with on several levels) -... ease out, not pull out.
Date: 1/11/2007 10:08:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 6915    Ben, and whats going to be the result of us leaving?
Date: 1/11/2007 10:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 19613    US Leaving = less US troops killed?
Date: 1/11/2007 11:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 61977    No, I am not mad at all.
Date: 1/11/2007 12:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 63194    The result of us leaving? So... you want us to stay there forever like with Korea??? I said ease out - slowly reduce our occupation of the country - stop killing United States troops. Trust me, we would be a heck of a lot less likely to be struck in the homeland if we leave than if we stay - especially considering how much of our resources are away from the homeland.
Date: 1/11/2007 12:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 40899    All I can say is, Vietnam.
Date: 1/11/2007 1:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 53558    I am not American...
Date: 1/11/2007 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 22188    I agree...sort of. You're right, like it or not we are in Iraq. We can't go back now and erase the war, wo what's left for us to do is to take charge and do things right. BUT we DO need to get out of there. We need to give them the best resources we can to prop up a government that won't be a threat to us, and then we need to leave them to their own devices. The Iraqi people do not want us there...they don't feel like we've rescued them from an evil dictatorship. They feel we've invaded and replaced their dictator with our own. Therefore, it almost doesn't matter what we do, because unless they form their own government they won't respect it. Further, our system of government works for us. That does not mean it works for everyone else. These people have an entirely different set of beliefs. Separation of church and state, for instance, is not something they need or want according to their faith and beliefs. Anyway, like you said, all the would have's and should have's in the world aren't going to change anything. We needed something decisive and we needed it yesterday.
