Ok, my dog is over four years old..NO spring "puppy"..LOL We have never been able to get him completely housebroken. He insists on going in the same place every time. My eldest Son's bedroom! Now he is outside most of the day. My husband puts him out on his chain in the morning before he leaves for work and he does not come back in the house until we are all home from school/work in the evening. He will come in, eat, and go straight for my Son's room!! WHYYYYY???? In the evenings we let him out several times, and even get up through the night to let him out. Doesn't matter, he still goes pooh in the house!!

I need some help! We have tried everything I can think of to break him of this. I don't want to end up putting him outside permanently.

Date: 1/8/2007 11:03:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    LOL PNK..My husband has other thoughts..He is totally fed up and so is my Son.
Date: 1/8/2007 11:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 33286    what does your sons bedroom smell like... maybe the dog thinks it is supposed to be the bathroom
Date: 1/8/2007 11:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 16845    Well, if it makes you feel any better........while I was reading this (the first time) My dog made a mess in the kitchen.......Umm.....Yuck. Shampoo the carpets, if the dog can 'smell' it they'll continue to go there. could always throw out a few piddle pads....that way if he HAS to go he might be encouraged to go there instead of just on the carpet. it's atleast easier to clean up that way....and you can slowly move the pad towards the back door and outside.

Date: 1/8/2007 11:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 52155    if you quit feeding the dog, it won't be long before he stops pooing in the house.
Date: 1/8/2007 11:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 64197    You will have to get rid of the "smell", that is why he is going to that area. I had the same problem with my 12 yr old poodle,(and my new doberman puppy) I used Fantastic to clean up her accidents, it completely gets rid of the smell. You can also use Nature's Miracle, it is an alcohol based product from Pet Smart, costs about $10 a bottle, but it does work! You will have to saturate the area on the carpet to get it down to the pad, then you will have to use something REALLY heavy on that area to soak all of the cleaner and water up. Once you get rid of the smell, he shouldn't go back to that place.
I have used both products and neither one has discolored my carpet. Good luck!

Date: 1/8/2007 11:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 14464    They have carpet shampoo made specailly for getting teh odor out of hte carpet so the animals will stop thinkng that is where they go. Also try making him go outside after he eats and don't let him in the house until he has gone.
Date: 1/8/2007 11:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 64365    You need Caesar, the Dog Whisperer. I don't have any problems with my daughter's pups. One is 5&1/2 months, and the other about 7&1/2 months. They are alone about 4-5 hours everyday, and ask to go outside when I get in from work. No accidents. Keep your son's bedroom door shut so the pup can't get in there...that's the only quick resolution I can come up with.
Date: 1/8/2007 12:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    Doggie Diapers
Date: 1/8/2007 12:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    Ummm...Hack..His room does not smell like a Bathroom..LOL..We have tried different products to remove the scent..Nothing has worked. There are no carpets in the house at all. We removed them all last summer because carpets are nasty..LOL.
Date: 1/8/2007 12:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 33286    well, there you go... get rid of the kid... that's your solution. you do that and after a week you don't even MIND if the dog goes in the house.
Date: 1/8/2007 12:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    LOL..Well he is 19!
Date: 1/8/2007 12:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 64197    Then the scent has to be in the concrete or sub floor, remember dogs have better sense of smell than we do. If you really want to stop this (and not have to close the door or keep the dog out permanently)you may have to pull up that part of your flooring and seal the concrete/subfloor with a sealer.

Date: 1/8/2007 1:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 46069    not that i want my dog to start crappin in the house.. but ughhh.. i hate cleaning it up outside.. Bruno is a good dog.. doesnt mess in the house.. but the back yard is a war zone right now... i think we are holding out to see who will give in and clean it up...
Date: 1/8/2007 1:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    I guess my main question is this...WHY after over four years of trying everything possible including tearing up flooring (My Son's room is down to bare concrete as he is in the basement), trying diffrent products for odour removal, keeping the dog locked out of most parts of the house..He still insists on going in that room??? I have to ask if maybe there is another issue. He has gone in other rooms in the past, but we were able to stop that using the exact same methods used in my Son's room, yet he still continues to go in that room. I have to add that it is not in the same spot every time. We joke and say he is leaving my Son presents or better yet traps as he sometimes does it right in front of my Son's door.
Date: 1/8/2007 1:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 33286    maybe he likes the wallpaper, you know, like having something to read while you go.
Date: 1/8/2007 1:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    LOL..well that could be..If there was wallpaper. It's specialty board down there..Looks like gray brick..Maybe he thinks he is outside going by the side of the house??
Date: 1/8/2007 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 33286    that could be... try putting a fire hydrant in there and see if he gravitates towards it, then you can slowly move it outside.
Date: 1/8/2007 1:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    Actually I would do better to put a car in there. He seems to have a fascination with my Husband's tires as well. You let him out and he goes directly for the car..Never the truck, always the car.
Date: 1/8/2007 1:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 64197    Maybe he has an issue with you husband & son. I used to have an australian shepard that hated my 1st husband. He always tore up his stuff & would poop in his office and then use his (my hubby's) shoes, pillows or clothes to cover it up, LOL, it was pretty smart on his part.

Date: 1/8/2007 1:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 22275    i have a question... isnt it now illegal to keep your dog chained up for more than 3 hours?... Must just be here in cali. .... I dont know woman... dogs just have that tendancy. You need to like... train him again
Date: 1/8/2007 2:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 63725    Maybe you could build your son a doghouse and the pooch will go in there! LOL Good Luck!
Date: 1/8/2007 2:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    There's nothing worse than the stench of cat urine. I have this friend who had these two old cats who just got too feeble to make it to the litter box, and would go wherever they were at. She had carpet. She went to Sam's and got Odoban, and that stuff got rid of the odor, I swear. Perhaps you could find something like that. A babygate at the top of the stairs to the basement will curtail the pup from going down there. I've only had a problem one time with this stray I picked up. He was precious and I got his shots for him, and looked for a good home for him. He would invariably go in the house. I finally rubbed his nose in it, and put him outside. He never went in the house, again. I don't think he liked wearing the stuff on his nose. I know it seems cruel, but I got my point across...and it was only once.
Date: 1/8/2007 2:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 63194    Some dogs hold grudges... maybe he poops on your sons floor because he is the one who ties him out every morning, lol.
Date: 1/8/2007 2:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    Hey Pika! There is no law here that states that. The only thing we have is a community law that states that you cannot have your dog tied outside between 10:00pm and 7:00am. Our Dog gets put out at 7:00 and is brought back in around 6:00pm. He has a Dog house, a VERY long chain and the whole backyard to run and play in.
Date: 1/8/2007 2:33:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    Actually my husband ties him out. My Son is usually the one who brings him in. He is also the one who likes to sneak him in during the day when no one is home. Out of all the kids he babies the dog the most!
Date: 1/8/2007 3:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    Start keeping your son's door shut and all doors shut that you don't want him going into...I don't have an answer why, but this seems the best thing to do.
Date: 1/8/2007 3:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    The reason he's doing that is because of the scent. Dogs mark their own "bathrooms." And that is the place they will go every single time. The first thing you need to do it to make sure you put a really really good cleaner on the carpet. Then (as gross is this may sound) don't throw his poop away but put it outside where you do want him to go when he goes in the house. That way, he can follow his nose to where he's supposed to go!
Date: 1/8/2007 9:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    Feed him in the morning when you put him outside, that way he can do all his "pooing" outside. Me not being a doggie person at all, would have sent him packing four years ago. I know I know, I'm a meanie..lol.
Date: 1/8/2007 9:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 60992    no offece... but by the sound of it yor dog sounds really weird.. lol.. he likes the cars tires? I must he is weird.. lol.. Gotta love their quirks. Find a dog whisperer! they can tell you! lol.. Have you researched on the internet?
Date: 7/11/2008 1:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    So is this naughty doggie still at your residence lol!!! naughty isn't he??
Date: 7/11/2008 2:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 27826    ROTF "Doggy Diapers?!" LOL! Maybe trade it in for a cute little kitty? Just Kidding. Hope it all works out!!
Date: 7/11/2008 7:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    have you caught him "in the act"... I'd try to and drag him outside while it's still hanging under his tail, while telling him "OUTSIDE!". Dogs are sometimes dumb and need literal demonstrations. I adopted an adult dog and had a problem with him peeing in the house for a little bit... caught him once, did what I said up there, and never had another problem with that until he got old. Or keep the bedroom door shut.
Date: 7/11/2008 7:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    dang... just noticed this is really old. hope you solved your problem ;o)
Date: 7/11/2008 5:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 33925    LOL..yes my problem was solved. I gave the dang thing away!
Date: 7/13/2008 3:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 27826    LOL!
