Family and friends seek answers about crash fatal to motorcyclist

SCOTTSDALE - Family and friends of a 24-year-old motorcyclist are seeking answers to what caused him to be thrown from his new sport motorcycle while out for a Sunday drive on Scottsdale Road.
Matthew Busey, who moved to Scottsdale just months ago from his home state of Illinois, suffered serious injuries after he lost control of his bike near Scottsdale Road and Earll Drive on Dec. 10.
Busey died at nearby Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn shortly after the wreck in which an unidentified car could have veered into his lane, causing him to lose control, according to the police report. However, the cause of the crash has not been confirmed.
Lucas Gerler, 23, said he and Busey ate brunch at Sugar Daddy's restaurant that morning.
Busey was not wearing a helmet, Gerler told police, because he lived in the area and was only driving about one mile that day.
Gerler said he and others close to Busey are frustrated with the lack of information on how the wreck took place.
Scottsdale police are investigating, but it was unclear whether the car, which Gerler described to officers as a maroon sedan, caused Busey to lose control and fall.
Gerler also moved to Scottsdale recently and was set to work with Busey at a local office of careerbuilder.com.
