I was slightly confused about the article. But there have been like 2 or 3 other posts talking about young girls giving birth and such. Then, the conversation turns into this subject. |

I would like to know exactly where they got their sample space and if it is representative of our population. Statistics can go wrong fast if not done properly. *can't believe he learned something in statistics* *hugs to all* |

I believe it - the belief that sex must wait till marriage is outdated. |

I agree with you BeezleBen...it just seems "odd" that this generation is involved yet the ones prior weren't. Well, all the generation before us were probably "smarter" and took precautions and there are more people in America than there were in the 40's, 50's and 60's |

There were also a lot of shotgun weddings back in the day though... Alot of times people would get married, and then 5 to 7 months later.. wahalah... a baby |

I think that study is extremely limited. For one thing, it does not say how many sexual partners were had before marriage. I think the number is far greater now, even if they said how many sexual partners before age 25. I also think that people in the pre-40's and 50's were much more afraid on sexually transmittted diseases, as fewer cures were available. If you couple that with the fact that the sentence for promiscuity can be death with the advent of AIDS, I think this study is seriously flawed in seeming to promote more sexual partners. i honestly believe it, i think the difference between now and decades ago is that sex in general wasn't talked about, though on the same topic i think any person who is planning on having sex should be prepared with what may happen and should not do such a thing lightly |

I think when a study is done the results can be interpreted to show whatever you want them to on most occasions. Do I think people have pre-marital sex years ago?....yes I probably do. Do i think premarital sex was right then and is it right now? I believe not. Just becuase the majority participate in it, doesn't make it right. |

I don't think it's changed that much over the years. I think people just talk about it more now... |

America is very uptight about sex. |

America is uptight about sex. But, I know that women in the 50's and 60's (before the hippie era) did not have the number of sex partners that they do today, nor did they start having sex at such an early age. I am speaking of the majority. You always have your easy pickings, but for the most part, you really risked getting a really bad reputation then. I don't think that is so true today. I would argue though that "IN" the hippie era, people were having MORE partners and more unprotected sex. |

You can't know for sure that they had more partners back then. With how taboo sex is made in the US, its hard to tell anything. Making that assumption is just an ignorant guess. |

its not an ignorant guess, its a statement based on stories told, stories read - MEDIA and being friends with people who lived in that era. |

Thus, an educated guess. |

They key word there Ben is "stories". I still say its an ignorant guess, because I'm sure they didn't start looking at the differences until recently since sex is so "shush shush" in the US. |

Emi, an ignorant guess would be for me to sit here and say "Hmm... I think I will just SAY they had alot of partners for no reason at all!" - and educated guess is for me to make my statement based upon what I know. |
