My Favorite Christmas..... mercury

One Christmas Eve, several years ago, my bother in law came over to hang out with us. He helped my 2 year old daughter get her plate of cookies ready for Santa and put out the reindeer food, while I got the baby ready for bed.

After having our hot chocolate and reading “The Night Before Christmas”, my husband and I got her settled into bed, knowing full well, she’d be standing at her window just waiting for a reindeer to appear and eat her offerings.

We heard her squeal and went to ask what was going on. She told us that she heard jingle bells and that Rudolph was in our backyard! Of course, I didn’t believe her, but when I went to the window, I saw it too! There was definitely a red light near one of the trees in our back yard, and no known source for it being there. I felt like a kid again!

She jumped back into bed, very excited, and informed us that she had better get to sleep so Santa could come in and leave her presents.

I was just slightly disappointed when I saw Paul walking back in the house with a strap of jingle bells and a flashlight wrapped in red construction paper, but for that one moment before I knew it was HIM out there...

My daughter is now 10, and she still remembers her Rudolph experience, and I think she always will. I don’t think I’ll ever let her know it was “just” Uncle Paul.

Date: 12/19/2006 10:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 62881    Great story Mercury. I heard a similar story on the radio this morning. The father went up to the roof of their home with some jingle bells and a red lighted flashlight...the kids heard him and the kids and his wife rushed to the window to try and see Santa...only to see their Dad fall off the roof! Glad your experience was better!
