Hi Derek. "Taken out of context"? Ok. Let me pull out a Today's English version (since I'm too lazy at the moment to go pull the KJV off the shelf ). Now Jesus was speaking to his disciples, right? I'll start with verse 16: which begins: Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17: Believers will be given these signs of power, they will drive out demons in my name; they will speak in strange tongues. 18: If they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed; they will place their hands on the sick, and they will get well. 19: After the Lord Jesus had talked with them, he was taken up to heaven and sat at the right hand of God. 20: The disciples went and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and proved that their preaching was true by giving them the signs of power. |

Derek, putting it within context, it still says what it says. That if they pick up snakes or drink poison, they will not be harmed. No where does it say anything about not to "tempt the Lord" in THIS case anyway. Yeah, it does say that in another part of the Bible. But like a lot of scriptures, it says one thing over here, but then quite the opposite somewhere else. I don't care how many verses you precede the quoted scripture with, or how many you add on to it. It STILL says what it says. |

reminds me of a documentary of a church I saw who's members practiced drinking arsenic, based on the same type of passages about believers will be able to drink poison without being harmed. Weird thing is none of the people ever got sick. I wouldnt press my luck however.  |

HERE is my ACTUAL , MY real opinion: I am not happy about this poor woman and what happened to her. This caught my eye because it is so close to my mom's city. In fact, just last night I was on the phone with my mom and turns out she knew some of the woman's relatives. We talked about how sad it is that someone would take scripture so literally and do such a thing. So take your silly and false strawman BS some place else, BCAR. |

I admit I do not know but I would interprete that passage as the spiritual act of taking up the power of the serpents themselves and not be harmed by it.Sort of like the ability to use the dark powers for good and remain unaffected by it somehow still in essence. but who knows.  |
