My Closest Near Death Experience

One summer a few friends (John and Jake) and I were hanging out at at a pool that was a friend of Jake's mom. I couldnt swim at this time and i was just relaxin in the shallow end. I am not a tall kid so the shallow end was up to my shoulders which was aproximately 4 feet. We were all playing pool football which is just regular football but in the pool. I wasnt able to go into the deep end because i was not able to swim at the time, I didn't know how, so i was baiscally defence for whoever was on the shallow end side. My old friend John decided today was the day I would learn to swim so he told me to get on his back and we would just swim to the deep end and back to the shallow. Now that I look back on it that had to be one of the most stupidest descions of my life.

All what happend next lasted about 4-5 minutes.

John started to swim out with me on his back and the further we got out the deeper it was and we started to sink to the bottom. I clearly remmeber the panic that arose as we sank. I started to climb up till the point that i was on john's head trying not to go to the bottom. John threw me off his head and he swam to the edge and got out. I was standing on the bottom of the pool which was 9 feet. I just stood thinking "i am gonna drown and thats how i am gonna die" I started to walk to the further away side (i was thinking taht hey theres the other edge 1 foot away from me) as i was walking i started to think of how my dad and mom would cry. There was one clear thing I saw under water. This might sound crazy to people but i swear i saw a bright light under that water facing toward the wall. It kind of guided me toward the wall and when i saw that light i knew i wasnt going to die but i felt a calmness come over me.

I did make it to the other end in which i somehow grabed the top of the edge. If i was under water for maybe 10 more seconds i think that i wouldnt have made it.

I can swim now and i am no longer afraid of swimming which i was for 2 years.
