Burnt Out ... By CaitieAnjel

Hey everyone! So "long-story short" ... I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and it really hasn't been so bad, because I've been able to relax and not over-exert myself. But recently I started my freshman year in college and I just took on a part-time job to help pay for tuition, my car, etc. I know it doesn't sound like much. So many people my age go to school, work a full-time job and do sooo many other things. But the fact of it is, I'm not one of those people. It's hard enough doing things when I am trying to cope with seasonal depression (as I'm SURE some of you understand) without having to play this game with Chronic Fatigue. And it's already become really hard. It's like trying to walk through a brickwall. It's emotionally, mentally AND physically taxing. Anyway, the point of this little rant isn't to get pity or anything. What I'm curious about is, how do you relax when you're burnt out, without backing away from the situation? I can't quit school and I can't quit my job. That seems to have been my pattern in the past: quit when it gets hard. But I'm not going to do that now, so I guess I need to learn ways to cope. Ways to get through it all day by day and not ... pass out, or something. :P So any advice you could give would be great. Thanks for reading this! I know it's probably irritating to get through, but I appreciate it.

-Caitie

Date: 9/28/2006 8:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    And, I guess you need to take of yourself better than the average college student. Make sure you are eating well (don't forget breakfast), exercise sufficiently, manage your time well and don't put yourself in the position of having to cram and stay up late all the time, make sure you get plenty of rest, don't exert yourself too much by staying out late and partying on the weekends, but make you sure you are giving yourself plenty of breaks away from working and studying.
Date: 9/28/2006 8:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 62798    As you go through your day, think of good things. For example, if you have an assignment to do, remind yourself it is for your future and you are learning. A work, concentrate on the people you get to meet and help. Things like that. I am a mild sufferer of seasonal depression myself, so I do understand. Good luck and I admire you doing all those things!
Date: 9/28/2006 8:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 6915    1st off, get as much sleep as you can. Im not srue if that helps your condition but it would make sense. I work and go to school...and I get seasonal depression..although I think its more due to school than winter. LoL Since I don't know what your going through really all I can do is suggest things from my pt of view. For me, being burned out is like coming home from a day of school w/ a ton of it and mentally not being able to do any because Im so sick of thinking. I usually just watch tv or take a bath until Im eventually ready to do some work. Hope this helps.

Date: 9/28/2006 9:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 61966    Maybe you can cope by writing and it doesn't have to be poetry, it could be just your words on a page. Talk to someone close to you when your having a really bad one. You could even take 30 minutes of your time to take a warm soothing bath. And also, just get as much sleep as you can. I don't know what your going through but I wish you the best hun, hang in there. *hugs*
Date: 9/28/2006 9:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 40899    MUSIC! without my music, seriously, i don't know how i could make it through some days.
Date: 9/28/2006 11:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 29532    music WITH yoga.......niiiiiceeeeeee
Date: 9/29/2006 1:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 57079    I'm with Bojangles on the music I'm in a similar position as you but I'm all full time. I have a full time job (Monday-Friday 9-5) and full time school (Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm-10pm and Saturdays 12-3pm and an online class) and on top of all that I constantly am out with my friends. But I think the only way I get through it is the fact that my job is so easy and laid back, at work is where I get all my homework and studying done so I got lucky on that one. (honestly I don't know how I'm still alive or at least sane I'm normally not this type of person either) But I would say always make sure to make time for you and you alone like people suggest take a nice long hot bath and play your favorite music and read your favorite book/magazine get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast EVERY morning and have at least one other good meal every day if not 2. Make a good schedule so you aren't late and in a huge rush because that will stress you out. Also keep close track of your bank account so you know you are never in the red because that's another thing that will stress you out. Always try to make some time to relax with family and friends and stay away from dramatic people. I hope at least some of this helped and I wish you all the luck in the world with all your challenges! If you need anything or just want to talk about stuff like I said I'm in a similar position and I am a college freshman too!
