a new tranny filter might be a good idea first before buying a new tranny. Go to Auto zone and get one, then come here to Janesville where I moved and I'll do it for you. |

What kind of car is it, and how long since the tranny was last serviced? Try the filter first, but is shoulds like the tranny is gonna need gone through. Might be a good idea to get the fluid flushed out too. |

Don't flush the fluid, too many miles are on the car for that. Since you said the manifold gastet had been replace, I take it is a General Motors product. V-6 being a 3.1, 3.4 or 3.8 liter motor. Plastic intake manifolds what were they thinking??? It has an overdrive transmission and it sounds like the TCC solenoid is bad. To test this drive your car in DRIVE not OVERDRIVE. If it still act's this way you have big problems, If not it's the TCC solenoid. Not to expensive to get fixed. Hope this helps you. |

I'm with creech, If it was the transmission that gear your talking about would be used in the city as well, when your doing 30-40 miles an hour. |

If it is an older car, you might want to check the transmission modulator. This is a vacuum operated device that shifts the transmission on some older vehicles...... |

Turns out it was just the TPS- or Throttle Positioning Sensor. Who would have thought!! I figured it was a sensor. Is this the same as a speed sensor on other cars? And yes, it is a GM- a Grand Am.... |

Throttle Speed sensor is what tells the cars computer how fast you as the driver are asking it to go. This controls fuel, air, timing, and shift points, among other things. A speed sensor is generally the term used for what send the signal to the speedometer to tell you how fast you are going. |

ABS Sensor should be your Anti-lock Brake Snsor, that keeps your brakes from lockign up when you slam on them. |
