I've heard a lot of different stories about Jet Li. I heard he was finished doing kung fu movies because he wanted to be known for more than his martial arts. Then I heard that he was leaving show biz all together to pursue a mission in Buddhism. Whatever the case may be, I've never been a huge fan but he's had a pretty storied movie career... carrying in footsteps of Bruce Lee and all. - ![]() |

I actually liked Unleashed. It was very well acted. I'd say either that or Romeo Must Die. My least favorite was the Lethal Weapon he did, Lethal Weapon 4 I think. ![]() |

I didn't know he was going into retirement. I doubt it will last. It never does in Hollywood. I generally don't care for that type of movie, but I really liked Romeo Must Die. ![]() |

I was surprised to hear he was doing his last martial arts film. I really enjoy his movies ![]() ![]() |

Oh, he's retiring? Good. I was never particularly fond of him, his acting is poor, he uses special effects in his fight scenes, and his Gung Fu is acceptable at best. But, I never overtly disliked him until I saw the first third or so of "Fist of Legend," a remake of Bruce Lee's second film: "Fist of Fury," known in the States as "The Chinese Connection." It was bad, but not that bad. However, I had to shut it off one third of the way through, when Jet Li re-enacted a scene from Bruce Lee's "Way of the Dragon," ("Return of the Dragon," U.S.) in which Lee used a spot-push blade (or jumping side kick) to send a person flying across the street, approximately fifteen feet. This was achieved with NO special effects, and is wholly possible under the laws of physics (at the poin-of-impact, your body is still off the ground, distributing your entire weight, plus a considerable amount of forward momentum into your target.) In "Jet Li's scene, he used a turning side kick (like it's name- you make a complete 360 with your body, snapping out a kick at the end.) And the effect was more dramatic than Lee's kick, though wholly and clearly the result of special effects. This is also wholly impossible, as the amount of force projected at the end of this kick is considerably less than a standard side kick, which projects roughly half the force of the afore-mentioned blade. Sorry, but martial arts films aught to be at least mildly realistic. ![]() |
