I cant say that I am surprised. The disgusting fact is that he had to hide it all that time only because it could be damaging to his career. |

I fail to see how anyone's sexual preferences affect their ability to sing and entertain. He should have been honest from the start....not that it is anyone's business but his own. |

It doesnt affect their ability at all - thats not the point. The fact is that people fear that being themselves can hurt their careers. It is no doubt that it can. |

You know what? He was the only member of Nsync I liked. I'm glad he was able to come out. |

Beezleben, in my opinion, the only thing that might damage his career is the fact that he was not honest from the beginning. If he wanted people to know then he should have stated it at the start....or kept quiet. People don't like dishonesty. |

hmm gives meaning to that song "Which Backstreet Boy is gay"..=P I use to love N'Sync..but then they started coming out with songs like "Bye Bye Bye" and I started to dislike them..But I love the older songs =) |

Right now, he will get a new following. But as a member of Nsync, if he had come out back then and been openly gay, it would not have been helpful to their careers. I am sorry that you cannot see that. People are rotten. |

HOW would it have damaged his career. Remember, I am a Brit, perhaps we have different tolerances. Are gay artists in the USA penalised for their preferences. Sorry if I am failing to understand...explain it to me? |
Date: 7/26/2006 2:52:00 PM
From Authorid: 63194
Yes, in the US, my honest opinion is that it would have damaged not only his career, but the careers of the other members of n'sync. First of all the media would have a ball with it - their greatest fan base was the 14 year old girls who could care less about the music and were all 100% sure that they would be marrying one of the members and that they would have all their children - with that "dream" realized to not be possible.. even though it hardly was in the first place they would lose interest. Also, do you not realize how relentlessly cruel the christian right are towards gays? They would raise such a stink. The people in the U.S. are not as nice as we think that we all are. It is a fact. We respect only our own freedom, but nothing beyond that. |

I guess I can't understand how this is news? Why do we have to announce when we are gay? I want equal time. I want a write up in News Week telling everyone I'm heterosexual. I gotta laugh at the media |

i know if i was famous the last thing i would want to discuss would be my sexual preferences and or desires. that is personal. i am tired of the media bashing on gay people or making a story out of them for ratings. people have the right to live thier life the way they want to without judgement from others in my opinion. god is the only one who shall judge.let people be happy and let the prejudices go....hugs all |

Oh puh-leeze. This guy was given the opportunity to be a part of the boy band franchise whose only goal is to make gobs and gobs of money off teenage female fans. He knew what he was getting into and he knew what was expected of him...to attract teenage GIRLS and their expendable income. He was perfectly content to be a teen idol to the ladies and make lots of money while doing so. Now that N'Sync is pretty much over, he's going shifting over to a new market to help keep his celebrity afloat. It wasn't fear that kept him in the closet for all those years, it was money. |

But it's not about oppression, it's about marketing. You don't advertise the newest iPod to the 65+ age group because that would be a waste of marketing dollars and bad business. Lance was signed on to that band to be a commodity designed by music moguls, plain and simple. He sold his soul to the music industry and CHOSE to hide who he really was. I feel less sorry for his fear that his "career" might be damaged for coming out and more sorry for all the teenage girls he duped into falling in love with him for all those years. |

The person matters...who cares what sexual preferance you are. Why can't we all love everybody? Even if you dont agree, why can't we just all accept ppl for who they are? I am straight, I have friends of all religons and prefrences. I know I just want to be accepted for who I am and loved. |

I'm not the least bit surprised by this & I could care less if he is gay or straight, as long as he's happy & content, then I'm happy for him & I'll still be an Nsync fan until the day I croak. You go, Lance!! |

Let him be as gay as the day is long! I don't think that is the problem here. It sounds like he's found love, acceptance and peace plus he has the all the financial comfort his past CHOICE of being a fraud has brought him. He's luckier than all of us put together as far as I'm concerned. |
