USM SOUTHERN REUNION 2007............................Two Spirit

This is a head's up to let everyone know. Now that the Oregon G2G 2006 is over, it is time to start plans for the Southern Reunion 2007. Plans are to hold the reunion in June of next year. We are not sure of the exact location as of yet. Over the next month or so we will be meeting up with Green Eyed Froggy to scout some sites along the Georgia/Alabama border, as well as meeting with Gail and Amanda to look at sites along the Tennessee river in norht Alabama. We will also be checking on some sites in Tennessee next month when we go up for the 450 miles yard sale.

The idea for the southerm reunion is to hold it on the years opposite the Oregon reunion, and to move it around the south to allow more people the opportunity to attend.

Next year's reunion will be three days, beginning on Friday and ending on Sunday. We will be trying to find a site so that those who wish to camp can do so, but also close enough to civilization so that those of us who enjoy a little comfort can find lodging.

Start saving your pennies and making your preparations, because we are hoping to make next year's reunion the biggest one yet. Of course, the big meal on Saturday will be southern style barbeque, with my own special sauce and seasoning. We are also looking at having a pasta dinner on Friday evening, of course we me once again doing the cooking.

For those who have been hoping to make one of the G2Gs and meet other USMers, this will be the chance. We hope to see a lot of you there in 2007.

Date: 7/16/2006 8:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 7574    Tennessee would be a lot more probable for me..
Date: 7/16/2006 9:48:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    Originally we had planned to have next year's reunion in Tennessee, but we ran into a problem that has made look at other alternatives. The first is the distance that MsPriss and I would have to drive to look at places and do the planning. The nearest place in Tennessee that we were looking at is a four hour drive, and the others are all six hours or more away. That means we would have to take an overnight trip to look at places in Tennessee for the reunion, or look at places when we do the longest yard sale there. In extreme north Alabama we have Gail and Amanda to scout places for us so that when we go up there we already have places to look at, and along the lakes at the Alabama/Georgia border we have Froggy to check ahead on places.
Date: 7/16/2006 10:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 53961    I sure liked last years's, close to Montgomery where I could drive back and forth in one day while visiting my daughter and family.
Date: 7/16/2006 1:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 3321    If you get close enough to Memphis, I might actually be able to get to this one!!! And, bring my mom
Date: 7/16/2006 1:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 3321    Pooh..just read your comment...Memphis area is a 6 hour drive for me, but I could do it becuase my grandparents live down there and I could crash and continue on. I just don't think I could make it that far southwest. How about we organize one in IL sometime?! Or even Wisconsin.
Date: 7/16/2006 2:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 63644    Has there been one in Virginia?

Date: 7/16/2006 3:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    The thing with organizing one of these events is that the organizers have to be close enough to where the event happens to be able to select a site, and them make sure that all the needs of the attendees can be met. It takes a lot of groundwork to put a G2G together. We do try to pick a site that is convienent to as many people as possible, but at the same time, we have to make sure it is convienent to us as the organizers. We do try to get the information out concerning G2Gs as far in advance as possible to make it easier for those who wish to attend to make their plans to attend. We also try to make it so that those without a lot of funds can make the events, by trying to find sites with campgrounds, and some have even gotten rides with others who were travelling to the event. It does not take a lot of money to attend a G2G. The primary cost is transportation or fuel for those further away, and motel costs for those that do not care to "rough it". By letting people know a year in advance, it gives people the time to put a little money back each month so that they can make an event.

Date: 7/16/2006 7:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    Woody, we had thought about having a gathering at the beach, but with the drastic increase in hotel costs, ruled that out fairly quickly.
Date: 7/16/2006 9:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    That is still so far away, I guess most of the usmers live in the eastern part of the usa? I have to laugh when you say southern reunion as I'm so use to calling Utah the south west. Guess its not as south as arizona is. Come on guys something closer.
Date: 7/16/2006 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    Rich and I are hoping to make it to this one.....ROAD TRIP!!

Date: 7/17/2006 4:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 63725    Well I am planning on hitching a ride with Hey, Hey Paula, my sister, so I vote Alabama. She told me about the fun she had at the one she last attended there. Lisa/Peacelover
Date: 7/17/2006 4:37:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    For those that feel they are too far away, put back a little extra money each money and use the reunion as a chance for a vacation. Each year there are people on USM that travel a thousand miles or more to attend one of these events.
Date: 7/17/2006 6:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 62267    Come to Kentucky!! Cumberland Falls!

Date: 7/18/2006 1:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 21155    Tennessee would be just perfect!! If it's there, I would def. be able to make this one!! I just moved here in Feb. Please, please, please, if it's at all feasible for everyone, I would really like to lobby for TN especially in light of the fact that my mode of transportation wouldn't survive a trip anywhere else... sad little auto that it is. Keep me posted, ok?? Thanks!! Much love, many hugs and kisses, and the best of all luck, hopes, and wishes to everyone!!! - KQ a.k.a.
Date: 7/18/2006 2:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    Freaq, Kentucky is a little too far, since we have people that will be coming up from south Florida. It is also over an eight hour drive for us, which is not feasible since we would have to make at least two trips just to handel the planning.
