I recently watched and incredible tv-movie on the life of Spartacus. Spartacus led thousands of slaves out of bondage from seemingly impossible odds against the Roman Empire. He believed that all men had the right to choose, and fought valiantly to defend this idea, and died doing so. At a time when change was virtually non-existent, Spartacus was definately something world had never seen before. Perhaps Spartacus was abilitionist, John Brown's, motivation at Harper's Ferry, an major event that turned the tide towards war and the course of history.
Had people just accepted their roles in life, slavery very well could still be around today in the US even.
