I work in a nursing home, and this poem was written by one of the residents I met there. She was a very intelligent and colorful person. I could sit and talk to her for hours. Sadly, she passed away a couple years ago, but I still think of her often. She published a book at one time with some poetry and stories from her life. Luckily I copied this poem down before she died and her family reclaimed her book.We used to laugh at everything,
Had private jokes galore.
But that was oh! so long ago.
Now nothing's funny anymore.
You'd smile at me and I'd smile back
and how my heart would soar.
But that's in the distant past.
Now nothing's funny anymore.
Since you left me for another
my world has lost its glow.
I hardly dare to think of it,
for tears begin to flow.
The snow, the wind, the rain that falls
all made us laugh some more,
but when you left, my sunshine left.
Now nothing's funny anymore.
