I am a Mother (again) today....update.....>^..^< Katlillie

If you've ever seen my profile, you know that my husband and I are already parents to two female calico cats.

Today, when I came in from an after-work meeting, my husband met me at the door with a cardboard box that was yowling at the top of its lungs.

Turns out the box had a kitty inside........a tiny, ever so tiny baby kitty, eyes just open. It's white with a black spot over each eye, like a panda. It has a big black spot on its back and a black tail. It's too little to even tell if it's a boy or a girl, I think. I have not done a thorough examination.

He went down to the laundry room at our apartments to get a coke from the machine, and heard this tiny baby kitty crying. He looked around, asked a few people but nobody seemed to know anything or be too concerned about it. He waited, walked around a little bit and then picked the kitty up and brought it to our house. After I got home and heard what was going on, we walked back over to where he found the kitty and we saw a big cat take off from under some bushes.

I guess that was the kitty's mama, and I've been crying (I'm super emotional when it comes to animals) thinking that she is upset becase she lost her baby. We are scared to take the kitty back down there and leave it because we've touched it and fed it kitty formula with a bottle. I know feral cats are sometimes likely to abandon or kill their kittens if they smell like humans.

And also, if we did take it back and the mama cat took it back into the litter, what happens if a dog comes, or a mean tomcat? I think it's too late for that kind of thinking. I guess I'd better figure out if it's a boy or girl and start thinking of names.

We are leaving to go to Galveston tomorrow when I get off work, about a 5 hour drive. The plan is to take the baby with us, and her formula and her bottle, and her little box that I fixed up with my husband's tshirt, a ticking clock, and a small stuffed owl.

By the way, the other two cats are very angry with us over this new development. Neither will speak to me.

***********update Sunday June 11 9pm**************

The kitty (who will be named Reah if a girl and Oy if a boy) is currently snuggled up with her litter mates and is doing wonderfully. The maintenance man at our apartments had already found two of her siblings, and had left them with a girl who lives here who works for a vet, and has a pet-sitting business. (Karma in action)

We got in touch with her on Friday to see if she would let our kitty stay with her while we went to Galveston (unavoidable trip, but we were prepared to take her with us, even had a little diaper bag packed with her kitty formula and bottles). She agreed, and is going to keep our kitty with the others until they are off the bottle, probably another week or so. We get to visit every day, and as soon as she gets back we will go to work making the two big sisters be nice to her.

Very happy chapter in this story. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon. The two other "kiblings" are still very small and quiet...but our kitty has her eyes open, is moving around by herself and is making regular poops. I'm so proud.
