Werewolves, Lycanthropy and other Shape Changers

There have been myths and legends about various shape changing beings, the most well known would have to be the classic Werewolf. Tales come from all over the world of half man/half wolf beings roaming the country-side. Most are considered evil creatures, demon possessed or witch-enchanted.

I watched a documentary on the werewolf myth, and there was an account of a man who was supposedly cursed by a witch, who convinced him to drink a potion that would give him great powers, unfortunatly he had no control over the powers and hunted the townsfolk around him. Tales of the creature he had become spread throughout the town and he was finally hunted down and executed. I don't remember all the details, but that's a fairly accurate count of what I do remember. People claimed to have seen him in his hybrid (werewolf) form, but recognized him through his eyes, which had actually turned (or always were) a milky gray/blue, like a wolf.

Native Americans have legends of shape changers, not just of wolf but of raven and buffalo and other animals as well. I believe, but could be wrong, that many of their gods had these abilities, and often visited tribes in animal form, to lead them on particular paths or journeys. I am interested in talking with a Native American Shaman who could explain this better.

Lycanthropy is the clinical name for a rare mental disease. Sufferers actually believe that they are werewolves, that the moon affects their shape change cycles and often become visious and animalistic during the full moon. There is no actual physical shape change, but mentally they loose all rational and act purely instinctual. I don't know if this is an actual recognized mental condition, but that is how it was explained to me, where, when and by whom I can't recall.

If you guys have any other info to share I'd be happy to hear it. I'm looking for more "real world" stuff, not the holliwood fiction. Thanks in advance!

Date: 10/20/2000 11:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 11092    I have always been interested in such contents as this. Personally, I am devotedly attached to of Vampire history. I enjoy studying such historical figures, as Elizabeth Bathory, the Acid Vampire and of course, you have today's headlines. Anyhow, virtuous post. I delighted in it greatly.
Date: 10/21/2000 12:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 16671    I totally believe that their are werewolfs and shape changers. I was just reading on a web site about this and was going to post a story. If you could have seen what I seen you would believe in them also. There are too many unexplained things that go on in this world. In my studies of this werewolf thing, I have found out people that use astro projection can not only send their spirits where they want to but can come in the shape of a half man half wolf. If you want to hear my full story on this, post me. Firstborn
Date: 10/21/2000 3:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 11528    I've never been very interested in shape shifting people but in the past couple years I am running across more and more articles about shape shifting people who shape shift and become reptilian. It is quite interesting and You may want to search for stuff on that possibility.

Date: 10/21/2000 6:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    Interesting. Lykanthopos-(werewolf from Lykos=Wolf+AnthrOpose=human being.): A delusion that one has or will become a wolf. I also saw a documentary on this condition. You`re right about there is no actual transformation like in Hollywood. It is an actual recognized mental condition. ~~KiKitimes~~

Date: 10/21/2000 9:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 15070    Ed & Lorraine Warren were involved with a man "possesed by the Demon of a wolf". He had originally been diagnosed with Lycanthropy & suffered it for(20?) years, The warrens became involved when his appearance became so changed during his "attacks " the doctors called them in. There was an actual exocism for this guy. This became one of their most famous investigations & they have been demonologists for over 30 years.....ladyspirit_guide

Date: 12/14/2000 12:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 20944    I have that book, its called simply WEREWOLF. Its a pretty good one for those interested in the subject.
Date: 5/21/2001 7:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 36386    There have been many cases where people were so obsessed
with werewolves that they think they are one, but the truth is
that aside from "wannabe" werewolves they are real and do change into
the hybrid forms. Trust me, I have witnessed this first hand. If you would like
to hear my info, msg me ~xGuardianx~
