“My name is Amy,” She said. “I’m here to help you.”
“Help me how?”
“If you go back into that hotel room, you’re hurting us all…”
“I’m just getting a tire gauge,” I protested.
“And you’re an idiot.”
“Ok, what do you suggest I do?”
“Come with me.”
So I did. She led me to her car, and I hopped in. We drove for what seemed like hours, although it was probably only a few minutes. We ended up at a brick house on the other side of town. That was where I met Shawn’s parents. They told me an interesting story that I almost couldn’t believe. I can’t even repeat most of it.
“What are you going to do?” Amy asked me.
“What can I do? You just destroyed my entire world, everything I know is pretty well gone now, how do I know I can even trust you?”
“You don’t, but what I can tell you, is that if you don’t do something now, everyone is going to die, even you.”
“But,” I argued. “If I do take action, I end up in prison. Which is better, dead, or prison?”
“It’s debatable, but do you really want those kid’s deaths on your hands?”
“No,” I admitted. “But there has to be another way.”
“There is,” Shawn’s mother said. “We take the children by force.” How it changed my life:...
