becky in Ohio if your over 18 you dont have to take the drivers education, or the 50 hour driving. All u do is pass your written test, and then take your driving test. |

If I remember right, in NJ here the written test was 90 questions long, and besides the drunk-driving laws, they were all common sense questions. 80% or above was passing, I managed to get a 93%. However, I'm far from the best driver out there! |

over here in Australia, you try for your provisional license at aged 16 if I remember rightly and pass written test of 20 multiple questions only allowing 2 mistakes, you then have to have 50hrs driving lessons and experience in all types of conditions over so many months and then do a driving test....and you are right, the questions are commonsense questions and answers...*hugs* |

Some insurance companies will not give the discount for just passing the test. They require that you actually take the the driver's ed class, which I think is a policy that all insurance companies should adopt. Anyone can study a book and pass a test, but there are things which are taught in drivers ed class, as well as practical applications that you learn that are not in the book. A person can quote the book the test is based on word for word, but that will not make them capable of operating an automobile. That is only learned under supervised application. |

Good luck, MN. In Va., you need to take classroom course, study a booklet and pass a test given at the DMV (the results are instantaneous) to get your learner's permit. Then take a behind-the-wheel course and test and pass them both. Then a judge issues the license in a 'court' that is usually set up at a local high school. Or if you are 19 or older you can skip the behind-the-wheel class and just take the test for it. -KT |

Good luck with that. IN doesn't have a test to take to get out of Driver's ed, but if you don't take it I think you have to wait till you're 18 to get your license. Driving is usually common sense. |
