Do you have trouble falling asleep too?

*in a robin william's 'good morning vietnam voice'* GOOD MORNING USM!:) It is 3:31 am here where I live in Oklahoma and I got about 6 hrs of sleep last night and I have a 9 am class. The nights of an insomniac...So i was wondering if anyone else has trouble falling asleep? If so what do you that makes it easier to get to sleep? Are there any special techniques or treatments that help? I can sleep just fine when I actually finally get to sleep but I just for the life of me cannot just lay down and instantly go to sleep.

I envy those that can. It can take me hours to go to sleep and sometimes I just don't go to bed at all. I use the if you aren't tired, get out of bed until you are theory. Yeah, amazing on how many days that you can get through on that. So yahoo searched for some "insomnia treatment" ideas and have found a list of ideas which might prove to be helpful. I am going to try the following:

1. No naps during the day.

2. Avoid caffine after dinner

3. don't stare at the alarm clock, cover it up if you have to

4. Increase exercise level maybe take an evening walk, and

5. Mellow out for an hour or so before bedtime. There are others listed on here such as play a soothing relaxation cd or tape but I can't sleep with noise so that is out. Counting backwards from 1000, yeah counting keeps me consciencous because I am focusing on numbers so that won't work.

Self relaxation by loosening all the tight muscles in your body and telling yourself that you are getting very sleepy, i don't even think that's gonna work at all so not gonna try. There were also some non g rated ideas listed so can't go there but anywho....yeah. Hope one of these will work tomorrow so I can get some sleep! :(

Yet its a good book. I mean I am here myself at 1:38 am and I wish I could sleep. OH don't get starbucks at 10:30 pm either that doesn't help. lol

I do much better working a night job (altho i'm not working right now) and sleeping as late as i want during the day. My youngest is in 6th grade so after she goes to school, then i can sleep. LOL, it's not soooo bad! But then i don't have any specific schedules to keep. Good luck with that. Peace and Love...

I've been sick since Thursday or Friday and it has gotten where it is keeping me up tonight. I am a substitute teacher, so I had to go to the staffing company's website and schedule myself as do not call all week, just to make sure that I can get better before I have to start preparing for the HUGE babyshower I am throwing my best friend Friday night. I have found that a warm bath and a snack usually help me go to sleep, but not tonight! LOL!!

I bet anything I won't be able to..it's always that way when I HAVE to sleep..

dont smoke before bed or no caffinated drinks.
wear socks and pj bottoms with no covers.
go for a walk before bed.
Spend time outside during the day in the sunshine.
Get things prepared for the next day before you go to bed.
eat a light snack an hour before bed. (no sweets)
TURN OFF THE COMPUTER!!!!!!!!

Date: 9/15/2005 4:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 30647    i used to havee problems sleeping too. i couldnt sleep with nething...tv, music, reading, etc. but now i fall asleep within 5 minutes of laying down only if i watch family guy while trying to sleep. its like...my own special lullaby.
