She had two eyes, two arms, two legs and all the basics. She just a regular girl but there was something there that set her apart. Something… Perhaps it was her eyes, so large and kind. Their warm green color always gave me a sense of protection. Somehow she could always look at me and see everything I was hiding. With a sad smile and quick tilt of her head I would do anything in the world for her. Yet the most she ever says is “Thanks for letting me vent.” That doesn’t do justice though, how many times have those words been said before by some lovesick sixteen year old? Too many times apparently, because any meaning behind those words has long sense vanished. I could talk about her hair, a brilliant shimmering shade of night, yet It still feels like nothing. I’m a writer, anything I say can seem great… so how do I convey the truth about her? She’s different because she’s free around me. Nothing I say or do could ever throw her for a loop and if she ever felt the need to run around naked, I’m sad to say, she would. She could take the time to have the deepest discussions on Catholicism with me and in the very next sentence could let out a belch that any beer guzzling football junky could be proud of. “Oops… excuse me.” A slight giggle and then she looks at me, awaiting judgment. “Don’t jip me now, what’s the rank on that one?” “Well it sure is rank. You get at least a nine on that one, I’m impressed.” We both laugh at the pure absurdity and continue back to our previous conversation without missing a beat. Like any friend I know what she’s like at her very best, but like a good friend I know her at the very worst. You can never quite call someone a best friend until you pat their back as they vomit and then look at them and say “That was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen.” “Just be happy I didn’t aim at you.” She always did know the perfect thing to say. She’s like a sister to me, that’s how come I see her so differently. I see everything that no one else can. I see her freedom and I see what she really is.
