How often do you.... ???

I co-habitate with spiders...

We actually get along pretty well. I've never been bitten by one and neither has anyone else in the family... they just annoy me.

They spin webs all over the place. Every corner, window well, and doorway is decorated.

I knock them down constantly... and they reappear the next day.

My husband says that we don't have any more spiders than the average household... I disagree. I don't see this particular mode of decor at other people's house's... only mine. (Maybe I only notice it here?)

This summer has been busier than normal for the web spinning. I'm wondering if all the mosquito control the local counties have been doing is bringing them out to find better sources of food... We have hardly any mosquitos this year, and NO flies! (yea! I'll take the spiders over the mosquitos, any day!)

So my question is this: How often do you have to go around web knocking? I have to do a complete sweep every two weeks and have "maintenance knocks" in between. Is this normal? Or should we change our name to Munster?

Date: 9/7/2005 10:01:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    I won't spray toxins in the house (anymore... LOL). We had an ant infestation in the apartment we lived in and I about affixiated myself trying to kill them.
Date: 9/7/2005 10:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 63191    I not only clean them off my ceilings, corners and everywhere else, but cleaning the hall ways, I find them EVERY WHERE...and it's DAILY. I don't think your spider population is in excess. They can respin a web in just a few hours, so it does feel like a losing battle, I know. USMOM
Date: 9/7/2005 10:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    This year has been a really bad one for spiders here to..I live in Texas. Spiders don't bother me much...but they bother my daughters and I get tired of hearing them scream my name so I can go kill yet another spider. We have wolf spiders, huge, harmless, yet scary looking things. Everyone around here says they have them bad to...wonder if that means something reguarding the weather? Probably not.
Date: 9/7/2005 10:14:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    guess I should be glad we don't have any hallways
Date: 9/7/2005 10:18:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    I think that's what they are... brown, kinda fuzzy, rather large. Are you doing mosquito control for West Nile there, too? We're usually like the Amityville house in late July to mid-August. We've only had 3 flies in the house this year.
Date: 9/7/2005 10:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 35531    Here in South Texas, the recluse spider is the most dangerous. You do not want to be bit by this guy. He actually rots the skin and goes deep in the bloodstream with his venemous poison. I regularly clean out closets and move furniture to expose these creatures and spray for them....My wife thinks I like to remodel like her.....shhh...don't tell her...hehe....rm
Date: 9/7/2005 10:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 60792    I share a shower with a spider.....kind of creepy....
Date: 9/7/2005 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    I have noticed an increase of spiders only recently. My guess is because the weather is starting to get cooler.
Date: 9/7/2005 11:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    We have a ton too. I let a spider live in the screen door because it catches everything that would try to fly in. I suppose it would be easier just to buy screen huh? LOL I find a few in the house but my lord they are taking over the basement. I wont go down there! We have flies! It wouldnt be so bad if we had screens on ANY of the windows or doors *sighs* Every time a door is left open, another 15 flies fly in You know, Ive only been biten about 10 times by mosquitos this year. I call that good!
Date: 9/7/2005 11:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    The other day I went outside to bid my son goodbye for work and a big spider jumped outta no-where to land on my arm...I let out a shreek heard round the neighborhood...set off a few car alarms as well lol
Date: 9/7/2005 11:36:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    The only mosquitos I've seen this year were at the USM picnic You can get adjustable screens at ACO, DMK. They're in the door hardware aisle, come in 2 sizes and run $4-5 each. I bought a couple at a time and we have all the windows that actually open screened now

Date: 9/7/2005 11:38:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    I've noticed it since we moved here, Release Me... 8 years ago!
Date: 9/7/2005 11:39:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    I'm glad we don't have to worry about deadly spiders here. Ours are just icky.
Date: 9/7/2005 11:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    There was one spider I saw while I was um in the bathroom. I screamed for all the kids hehe, whoever got there first got to kill it. Thank goodness it was my younger son and even he went WOAH before it got the shoe LOL.
Date: 9/7/2005 12:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 62579    We have spiders everywhere! I live close to the woods and they think we welcome them...they are very wrong! O_O I have one spider I had to fight with in the bathroom and yeah I stepped on him. I think he is a brown recluse or wolf spider. If it is a wolf spider it was just a baby one. It has a fiddle shape on it's back so I am spooked a little. I put him in a container till I can find someone to tell what he is. If it is a recluse I will have to have someone come spray.
Date: 9/7/2005 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 4887    A.I.T.A that sounds like a brown recluse to me.
Date: 9/7/2005 1:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    We have them here too...wolf spiders, brown recluses, banana spiders...all different ones. The banana spiders I HATE!!! They spin HUGE webs in between trees overnight and I almost walk right through the webs and into the spider 8-O
Date: 9/7/2005 1:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    lol...i don't want to touch spiders at all....
Date: 9/7/2005 2:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    We had a banana spider living in the yard several years ago. He spun the coolest web in my raspberry bushes and hung out for a really long time. I have pictures of him somewhere
Date: 9/7/2005 3:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    I fight the spiders almost every day. I tried to make a truce with them, they could have the outside and I get the inside of the house. They didn't hold up their end of the bargin so it's been war ever since.
Date: 9/7/2005 7:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    We have alot of palmettos all over down here not just in our yard but like everywhere you look it seems. They spin their webs mostly between the palmetto bushes and yea you are right they are cool webs but if you have ever touched them they are not like most webs the web is so thin yet it is so unbelievably strong. But there is absolutely nothing worse then walking out to the busstop in the morning still half asleep and wlking straight into a spider web. If there is dew in the morning its not so bad but when it is dry outside you normally dont see them
Date: 9/8/2005 1:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 26227    We have webs going up all the time. Im sure my wife knocks them down as soon as she sees them because she hates spiders. I once heard that we swallow a bunch ( I think in the thousands) of spiders in our sleep in a lifetime.
Date: 9/8/2005 4:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 53900    Ewwww Half Baked...are you SERIOUS??? The thought just makes me gag LOL
Date: 9/8/2005 8:10:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    LOL WildBob... I told my spiders if they stopped spinning webs all over, I'd stop smooshing them. They don't listen... just like my kids
Date: 9/8/2005 8:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 62579    Yeah, Half baked is right...they come in the night to drink from our mouth....Gags!
Date: 9/8/2005 9:24:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10245    I woke up one night with one dangling right over my face!
