13 days....thats how many its been since I quit smoking. havent had a lapse yet. Im not tootin my own horn here either. I have had a few good days (3), and alot of bad days, and a few ugly days. I didnt think that it would really affect me like it did. The nicotine fits are easily managed, the part that really disturbed me is that I have been real short with people, and at times just downright inconsiderate, and I really dont like that trait. Sooo, the question that I have is, for the people that have succesfully quit smoking, how did you manage the changes and how long did they last for. Thanks in advance for the replies guys...ShAdOw TiGeR

Date: 9/1/2005 11:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 62310    My husband quit smoking a few years ago and he was a grump for a few weeks. I don't think he managed his attitude in any way. He just kinda went with it. Congratulations to you! I hope that the hard part for you is almost over.

Date: 9/1/2005 11:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 11341    I tried to quit smoking and that lasted for all of 3 whole days! Youre doing great ST now its more a matter of kicking the HABIT than withdrawls. You have my thoughts right there with you, no, not those thoughts the other ones :P
Date: 9/1/2005 11:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    Good for you! That's great.

Date: 9/1/2005 11:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 22308    of all the people i've known that have smoked. it took them a while to quit but the majority of them, couldn't quit completely when they tried
Date: 9/1/2005 11:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 36766    When I stopped smoking for 4 months, the first few weeks, I was very mean & ignorant, but it only lasted those few weeks. When I got mean, I told ppl just to not pay any attention to me, it was the nicotine withdrawl, lol. But, congrats to you! Are you doing it cold turkey?
Date: 9/1/2005 11:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    I think that you're over the worst part.
Date: 9/1/2005 12:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    yeah, im going cold turkey, they dont sell the patches and stuff at our PX.
Date: 9/1/2005 12:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 10773    I'm not a smoker and never have been so I don't have any advice, sorry, but I have to say that I'm super-proud of you, Shadow for kickin' the habit, buddy!
Date: 9/1/2005 12:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    Thanks SS....and dont ever start...
Date: 9/1/2005 12:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    lots of water to flush the nicotine...and chewing gum.
Date: 9/1/2005 1:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 63165    A few more weeks, Shadow, and you will be doing better. I quit after smoking for about 25 years, 3 pad for a while, took about a month to end tha DTs. Tars Tarkas
Date: 9/1/2005 2:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Oh man...it's horrible for say the first 2 monthes and then it's not so bad...I quit just about 2 years ago bro..and what I did is I just tried to remember that I was bound to be testy and so I tried hard to think before I spoke and process what was really going on.easier said than done though..you could wear a big sign that says "Bear with me, I recently quit smoking" or "Recently quit smoking, BEWARE"...LOL..When we quit Jay was FAR worse than me cause he smoked longer...I don't know how others handled his mood swings but as for me I would just tell him "Babe, I quit too remember, so we need to watch the tones or we'll be fighting over nothing.." Sometimes he would get TESTY though and I'd be like "Oh for the love of God just go smoke a cigarette already"..and then of course he'd chill because we made a pact together by promising each other not to start again...I think that's why it worked for us cause neither of us wanted to break our word to the other...although there have been moments where a smoke would be soooooo tempting. Just stay strong bro...they say once you've passed that 30-60 day mark it's easier.
Date: 9/1/2005 3:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    Cool Tars...lookng forward to that being over..and Sis that is so cool that you and Jay did it together..
Date: 9/1/2005 4:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Thanks bro..it definitely made it easier I'm sure..
Date: 9/1/2005 11:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    when I stopped smoking 19yrs ago, it was hard for me as my hubby still smoked, but I was determined to beat the habit, and about 4yrs after I quit, he stopped (due to hospitalization) and he was a very heavy smoker, he has never had another one to this day and he is glad he did, so am I...I dont remember getting grumpy though, I had other things to take my mind off it, and when he quit I was able to support him...I found the first 3 weeks the hardest though, now I cant stand the smell of them....hugs
Date: 9/4/2005 3:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 63191    Every time I quit, the worst part is missing the habit. When I started smoking I was young and I grew up learning to do everything with a cigarette. It made me very irritable to be without that part of my everyday life. Once I had a pin (and have since made signs, etc.) that said "Be Patient...Non Smoker in Progress." At least people I worked with understood why I was ripping heads off and taking names! *LOL* It didn't lessen the withdrawl symptons, but it helped others understand. USMOM
Date: 9/12/2005 4:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    If you're still having problems controlling yourself... find a holistic pharmacy and pick up some stuff called Dr. Bach's Rescue Remedy... it's a flower essence and is amazing. It works for me on PMS... if it can calm that in me, it should do fine for you! Congrats... keep up the good work
Date: 9/13/2005 4:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 20579    Well I managed the change and I know this is gonna sound dumb by sitting there going ok I want a smoke but I don't have the money to support it or the time to pick up a pack so deal with it. LOL that actaully worked for me from april to middle of aug. (Thanks to a certian Punkie)
Date: 8/12/2009 1:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 64723    I guess I understand all the crap I get from you when I go out for a smoke. Good job, bud! ~Blacksunshine
