“Do you …”
He stuttered, trying to make himself finish the sentence. “Would you…” Still no luck, he just couldn’t bring himself to say the words. If he could finally muster the will power to get the sentence out in the open, what would happen next? His question, his offer and everything he had ever put into anything could be rejected. He would be a complete and total failure. He couldn’t have that.
“Hey, would you like …” Again he falters. A million words fill his mind, but one four-letter word stands out the most. Even if he decided to turn away because he feared the possible rejection, he would be rejecting himself. Of course, if he left without an answer that means that one day he can try again when he’s better prepared. But if he leaves, he’s admitting defeat. He knows that nothing good will come of this. Either way things can become rather difficult.
“…like to um… come…” Arggg!!! He almost had it out, what was stopping him? Fear wasn’t supposed to be a ruler in his life. He was supposed to control his life. Yet one lousy sentence was keeping him from progressing with his life. Something had to give and the only thing he knew for sure was that it wouldn’t be him.
“… to the movies… on a date?” YES!!! He got it out! After all that fumbling and stuttering, he was able to say the simplest of sentences. He was able to rid himself of the question plaguing him. He was able to put out his soul and let it be viewed. Oh God, did it really sound that stupid? ‘Hey, would you like to um, like go out to a movie with me um…’ that was horrible. How could he mess up something so simple? How could he screw up that badly? No matter how, he had done it. A blithering idiot, that’s what he would be remembered as.
He took a deep breath and waited. The hard part was over, he had a least managed to form a comprehensible sentence. Well, at least he kind of did. All of his work was over, he would just have to await an answer. An ungodly amount of time it would seem to get a yes or no. At least he would be able to say he gave it his all.
He slowly opened his eyes and raised his head. The door remained closed in front of him. His heart was still racing after managing to say the truest of words. He reached for the handle and opened the door. The sun blinded him momentarily, but as soon as his eyes adjusted he saw her. She was walking to the street to receive her paper. He took another deep breath, here he goes again.
