Ok, here is the situation. A colleaue and I have been having a conversation about getting out of the military early. He thinks that because I will have 13 years in when I get back from here, and only 7 years until I would be able to retire that I should stay in and finish it.

Now, my stand. As much as I like being in the military, the job that I have I no longer have the desire to do. I am worn out on it. I have to much time in and to much rank to change my jobs, plus my job is getting close to being shorthanded, so I wouldnt be able to change it anyways. I have a few options, but none of them are really explorable.

SO, the question I have is, would you guys be able to finish out a job, just for the money, even if it meant that in the long run, it could possibly have detrimental actions to that orginization?

Thanks for reading...ShAdOw TiGeR

Date: 7/6/2005 4:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 14780    I think there would be a lot of circumstances to the decision. 1) How much money I made 2) whatever the detrimental actions were. Seems as though I cant help you. LOL
Date: 7/6/2005 4:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    thanks Becky, and Katsho, its not alot of money, but it would be guarenteed money, and as far as the detrimental actions, it could very from having a almost no effect, to people losing thier lives...ShAdOw TiGeR

Date: 7/6/2005 5:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 27583    along with a military retirement you are also able to earn an extra living without efecting your military pension. i retired when i turned 40 so i know what it is to be able to enjoy life while im still young enough to do it. not many have this opertunity.. what would you do on the outside now that they are raiseing the retirement age to 68 or even 70... compared to retireing as a young man? alot to concider. wooden nickel
Date: 7/6/2005 5:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    Well, my plans for right now WN, is to take the savings I have, plus the extra money that I have to go to pilot school and get my private license, and then start towards graduating it. Until I get to the level I want to be at there, I am going to go back to being an electrician...ShAdOw TiGeR
Date: 7/6/2005 5:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 11341    I honestly dont know what I would do. Knowing there would ALWAYS be money coming in and I would never have to worry about health care would lead me to stay, but with the war going on and knowing that if my heart is no longer there with my job people could die from my actions, that would lead me to leave. I dont know....Good luck with whatever choice you make!
Date: 7/6/2005 6:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    Thanks DMK...if I could find a different job, I would probably try to stay..I like the military, but thats just an option at this time...ShAdOw TiGeR
Date: 7/6/2005 6:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 53836    I believe with all my heart that no matter whether you serve out your 'sentence' or try and opt out early...you will always be a hero to those who are praying for you and believe in you...I hope that you are indeed able to opt out if you are burnt out and can TRULY understand why you'd be burnt out...GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE THUS FAR!!! I cannot imagine doing the work and dealing with the conditions that you have! A TRUE HERO INDEED!
Date: 7/6/2005 7:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    You have to think about your future also. If you know in the long run, that you wont be happy...dont continue doing something you have no desire to do. I hope whatever decision you make, works out well for you. God Bless and take care!
Date: 7/6/2005 7:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61968    Spacie, gonna go for the early out opt...the need to come up with a sweet deal to get me to stay...and Adrienne, pretty much have my mind made up, just wanted to get some friends point of view...Thanks you two for the nice comments..ShAdOw TiGeR
Date: 7/6/2005 9:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 63042    Well, i have never been in the military but i am trying to look at this in terms of my own job. i am in a similar situation, and i've come to realize that nothing is really more important than YOUR OWN HAPPINESS. You cannot get your life back once it is in the past, and those 7 years are more valuable to you than anything else should be at this point. Life is too short to be unhappy for the sake of something as trivial as money. Money can be made in other ways; happiness can only be found within your own heart. Hope this helps... -asylem_supastar
Date: 7/8/2005 6:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 28270    I know what it's like to absolutley hate a job. If you really can't stand it, I would quite. You shouldn't need to put up with the work if you absolutely can't stand it
