Help with Father's Day Ideas!! Please!! -------A_S

Hello USM night owls and/or early-morning vagabonds like myself! As the title states, i'm having some difficulty with thinking of an appropriate gift for my father here...so here i sit, soliciting free advice from all you unsuspecting (and of course greatly appreciated!) souls.

Here's the catch(es): i'm not very close to my father; he lives in Memphis and this will be the first Father's Day i have seen him in 5 years. He travels all over the world for his work and cannot often enjoy the comforts of home; he reads every book known to man as soon as it comes out, so finding one he hasn't read is difficult. He likes gadgets and electronics, but those are things that i don't know much about and don't know how to buy/choose them. He likes to fish, and he at least used to enjoy golf, and i'm sure he still does. He has a boat, and a cabin, and spends his weekends on the water. He's hard to please. He hates eating out. i am on an extreme time limit; i will only see him for a few hours tomorrow before he flies out again.

The worst part is that he has the means to purchase anything he desires, and often does. Anything i buy will be merely trivial; yet i hope there is a heart inside him that will appreciate the effort.

i thought about getting him the Star Wars Trilogy but i'm not sure where to buy it or how to make sure i'm buying the right thing (there's so much Star Wars stuff out there!)

Please help me!!! Thanks in advance.... -asylem_supastar

Just had to throw the question out now to give your creative thinking caps some time to soak! Hugs and goodnight!
Date: 6/18/2005 2:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 56369    What i would suggest is photos!! photos are priceless. get some special pics framed to give him, or make a whole board of them and frame them. He can hang it up in his cabin. Or anything else creative and nice on your part thats sentimental value would outwiegh any other gift he can buy himself!
Date: 6/18/2005 2:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    How about seeing a movie together? I would buy my Dad a Dairy Queen cake or chocolate malt because he had alot of things. I will try to come up with something else though.
Date: 6/18/2005 8:47:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63042    Thanks for the ideas, guys! HS, that's a really cool idea, especially if i could find some old photos of us all at the cabin when we were kids. There's a long story behind the cabin; it was over 120 years old and was purchased by my late grandparents in the early 50's. A couple years ago my dad had it knocked down and rebuilt into a newer, more stable, more livable one (the original barely had plumbing!) so any old pics really are priceless! The only thing is that i'm really on a time constraint, so this might be a great idea for his birthday which is also coming up.

Today i won't be able to pull him away for that long, but you gave me an awesome idea: i could buy him the Star Wars trilogy like i had planned, AND buy 2 movie tickets or gift certificates to see the new Star Wars one that's in the theaters now. i could put those in his card, as a promise to spend some time with him next time he is in the area. What would i do without you guys?!!! That's perfect!
